Will We Make A 9:15 Whale Watch Time?

We will be on the Star Princess in March 2018. A 10 am whale watch in Maui with Pacific Whale Foundation requires that we be there 45 mins prior to departure. Maui is a tender port, docking at 7 am. Is it possible to make this timing?

If you are tendering into Lahaina, your tender will let you off right next to where all of the tour boats dock in Lahaina Harbor. If the tenders are up and running, you should have no trouble keeping your schedule.

My tendering experiences in Lahaina from a Princess ship have been that it begins about 30 minutes after anchoring in the bay. So the arrival time has not been when tendering begins. If there are multiple ships at anchor, delays will be even longer & the harbor master determines the scheduling into the small pier.

When tendering begins passengers on ship's tours & those at the elite repeat passenger level go first. Other passengers need to go with their entire group to receive a tender priority ticket & to wait in the assigned dining room.

I'd recommend arriving with your group (they will only give one tender ticket per passenger) as soon as the assigned dining room opens. That gives you the best opportunity to arrive at the PWF dock by 9:15 but it may be close. Besides the number of ships in Lahaina affecting tendering the weather can also affect tendering.

It's about a 10 minute ride to the harbor & as Silver said it's a short walk from the tender pier. By quickly getting tender tickets & with no delays you could arrive at the PWF boat by 9:15.

Make sure the whale watch boat leaves from Lahaina!
