SINGLEs Over 55

I know there are 55+ cruises and there are single cruises, but are there any single over 55 cruises? I want to get my dad on one.

Being over 55 and also a single male may I make a suggestion. If you HAVE to GET your dad on one of these cruises Not a good idea. If he really wanted to do this he would have already done it. I think the singles cruises are way too pushy. My choice is a regular cruise and just let what ever may happen happen. I found few other singles on the cruise I was on but I had a very enjoyable time with the many other folks I met and plan to remeet this coming year.

I know that Dad is prabably not doing as well as you would like but guys sometimes need to do this on there own. Don't know where you are located, but if there is a Panera restaurant near by suggest that he go there for brakfast coffee and a bagel. Many good looking 55 plus ladies frequent my local Panera and I would imagine it is the same all over. Also a good crowd of other old guys so there are all sorts of friendly groups hanging out on any given day.

Haven't heard of any singles cruises for just those 55 and over. You might want to check AARP and see if they are sponsoring any cruises, but like another poster said, maybe your dad doesn't want to go on a singles cruise. Personally, as someone over 50, I wouldn't like a singles cruise for people in my age bracket. If he wants to cruise, have him go on a regular cruise and not just one for singles. Celebrity, HAL and Crystal have an older clientele and Crystal has great single supplements unlike other lines that charge 200% of the regular fare they only charge 125% for single cruisers.

I'm 55 and just now going on my first cruise. Although I have a roomate, she is a young lady from my church whom I do not know. If this turns out well, I would love to cruise some different places and It would be grand to meet some other singles to double up with. I'm also like a lot on these boards who love to mingle but like their alone time too.

I'm 57 and just booked a group cruise for 40+ singles on the HAL Westerdam in January. I have been on over 30 cruises and this will only be my second time as a solo. I don't want to take a chance with an unknown roomie.

Your Panera bread must be really different than mine... There is nothing wrong with "getting your dad on one." He just might take the initiative himself. If those other guys would try it they would be doing those all the time. Honestly, often a single over 50 person on a regular cruise is just out of place. People may be too polite to let them know it, but generally things are done as couples or families. A single over 50 cruise certainly does not mean you are looking for love or even a partner. But, to me, it is assurance that you are not a burden or interfering or imposing on other people who want to be with their families and partners. It's simply a lot of other people in your age proximity to a certain extent, who want to continue vacations even though they are not a couple. It is a great idea. I encourage you to "get him on one." That's what my daughter did for me. It was a true gift. I now have a small group of people I travel with and visit and it is awesome.:)I know this is a very late post, but someone might benefit anyway. Thank you.

How was your experience if I may ask? I do a lot of things by myself but I'd love my mother to experience the freedom of just doing things

I have gone on many, many cruises, with many different companies, always alone and have met many life-long friends, including many couples. Couples

are friendly and included me and we often went off the ship together on excursions. Try to get "anytime" or "open" dining, so you can be seated with many others each night, as that is a good way to meet people. I am mid fifties, by the way.

Yep! Be your friendly self, smile and have fun.

I unexpectedly became single two years ago. Now, I travel quite extensively alone. Often, I will sit at a bar or if a restaurant has bar type seating at the kitchen. I usually have a good time watching people. Haven't met anyone special or found people that I continue relationships with.... But I have gotten great tips for travel and entertainment.

I can entertain myself and be quite happy, but I do love the random conversations that come with passing conversations with strangers!

I guess I'm not as outgoing as you. I'm also "suddenly single" after my husband passed away, but we loved cruising so I tried it alone--and altho people were nice, I was lonely: eating alone, or being the 3rd or 5th wheel at a table or on an excursion was not enjoyable. Also, there is no one to share experiences with. And then there's the single supplement, which is daunting. I would like to cruise again, but need advice on how to make it more enjoyable.

I have cruised with my sons since being widowed, they are busy with their own lives now so, I decided to try an escorted cruise in January to see how I like it and may even meet a future travel friend that way. If not, at least I'll have the experience! I love cruising It seems a little awkward to me but I figure I'll be safer than going alone and shouldn't be lonely!

As a 59 yo man, I also have that same concern. In fact I had booked a 14 night cruise and joined the roll call. Well, after a few months of seeing only couples on that roll call, I decided to go a different route. After a lot of investigating (I hate that word but thats what it was) I booked a cruise on the NCL Epic. The Epic has studio staterooms designed for solo cruisers and a "living room" social gathering place where solo travelers can mingle and get to know each other. I was looking to cruise sometime in the Nov/Dec area and lurked the Epics roll calls to see with which group of fellow cruisers I would best fit in with. Each roll call seems to have its own personality, so to speak. I decided on the Epic Dec 1 cruise best suited me.

Hope this helps you. I believe that both men and women solo cruisers are looking to have that cruise experience and to be able to share it with other solos when you want companionship. Combined that with the freedom to of having "ME TIME" creates that perfect cruise.

I'll back up the poster who suggested the NCL Epic. I'm 70 and not necessarily looking for a relationship, but I'm not averse to one. On each of my cruises in the singles studios, I have run into women who made it clear that they were looking for something and were interested in me. Since I was just there to enjoy a solo cruise, it sort of surprised me, but it worked out pretty well. In my opinion, because of the studio rooms, this is a great ship for meeting singles. If you get your father to try it (and if he really wants to meet women), tell him to be sure to attend the evening get-togethers, especially the one the first evening, so you can meet people. Even if he doesn't meet a "special" woman, he's sure to run into people he can enjoy spending the week with.

I became single after the marital breakup after 37 years. I mourned, but I guess in a different way. My first solo was a 5 nighter, it was rough. The eating, the sharing, Couldn't face elegant night. I had to go up to the top level to avoid strolling couples. On cruise 2, I decided to chit chat with people, mostly on Lido, plunked myself at people's tables instead of sitting by myself, it was small talk of course. Met another female who was looking to cruise again (her group wasn't), we got along pretty well, became roomshares two times. Now she's off to Alaska with some others we met while on a cruise. I would have gone, but I'm tied up with my ex going through a Hospice situation. We had a friendship despite other things. To me I had a great sense of freedom cruising, but also some down times sharing with the former "familiar" relationship.

Go with Frank and me. We meet on a cruise 2 yrs ago. He is from Ohio and I am from Davenport,Fl. I check the cruises and then email him when I find a good price for singles. We each get our own inside cabin because we spend very little time in it. When we are not busy we play a game called nickles. He usually flys in the day before and we get rooms near the ship as I pick him up at the air port. Joyce

I am 71 Frank is 74

I am now a widower and love to cruise. I am not young and was worried about being old and cruising alone. I guess I can now try NCL and get a studio. Happy cruising dublell.

I have been on 7 heading this month for 8 as a widow. I am 71 and have enjoyed every cruise I have taken. My husband and I only got to take 2 cruises but I cruised single before I met him.

People are friendly . Men seem to be friendlier then women.

The Epic has the solo cabins but who cares about the privite sitting room. I love to sit and watch the people. That room cost extra. An inside cabin is usually cheaper then thier solo cabin. Also they only go to 3 islands I am doing Ruby Princess which goes to 4 islands and when I booked it it was cheaper then Epic. I don't want to pay to ride on the ocean. I want to go sight seeing every chance possible. Joyce

I'm not even sure if you've already been on your cruise... If not, I'll share about my one & only solo cruise (and probably my favorite of all times!). I had such a great time because the very 1st night I went to the show and went to the front row where some other ladies were sitting. Fortunately for me they were outgoing and very friendly. One lady was from So. Africa and the others from Texas. Though that was quite a few years ago, we all still have contact.

After I met the "girls" we got together every night for dinner and some excursions. They made the trip a lot of fun! On the other hand, I could come & go as I pleased. I didn't have to worry about what anyone else wanted to do or where they wanted to go. I would nap in the afternoon...sleep til noon... and just let loose!

I am 56 single female going alone on my first cruise July 15. Any advise.

Thanks

I have read this blog with some interest but I was hoping there is a site that is focused on single cruisers. I love to cruise but don't want to go alone. Definitely heterosexual and looking for someone to cruise with once or twice a year. I would be happy to share a cabin to keep costs down and have a cruising pal ... nothing more .. male or female. I am male, 56 love to explore and do my own thing. Is there a site or blog out there that connects people with interests like mine?

Hi...there is a very popular travel site that offers singles cruises...they are usually at least $200-$400 more expensive than the same cruise booked as a solo. The advantage is that you are "in" with the parties and other events that the singles do.....I won't pay the extra money, just to go to a couple of parties. I have gone on 7 cruises by myself and I have no trouble meeting people. I don't like paying the extra money for the single supplement, but I do since I want to cruise. If you want to know the name of the travel site, just email me...
