Interesting OBC offer from RC - OBC Fairy.

Recommended Posts

Our TA called me this past Thursday. I was at the drag strip in Indianapolis for the Hot Rod Power Tour when my phone rang so I let it go to voice mail. 10 minutes later my wife Lisa called me and obviously that one I answered. ;)

Lisa said that RC is offering us $500 OBC. We would need to pay in full, approximately 3 weeks in advance of our final payment date for our September 30th Harmony Cruise. We are sailing in a Star Class cabin, SLS 1724.

They informed our TA that they are in high demand and they are looking firm up who will be following through and who will be turning them in before final payment. I said to Lisa pay in full and take the OBC. They really must want one and who ever is needing it will pay a steep premium.

As for Indy, it was hot and the races were good. Oh and the food porn was spectacular. I might post a few pics.

There's another about this issue - the offer seems to be random.

Indeed. They way my wife started to describe the call, I wondered if they were going to try to get us to switch sailings. Whomever wants to sail that date might have a bit of pull, as why else would they offer OBC to pay a few weeks in advance. Never had it happen before and doubt it will happen again.

It seems to be Oasis Class, JS and up. I've seen other CLS's only get $300. Or was your $500 in CDN?

FWIW, we got $100 (US) for each leg of our October 8 &15 cruises on Oasis. We have a JS. Deadline to accept was today.

Yes, USD John. Interesting that they are offering them for JS as well. We are in a SLS so that might be there $200 increase from a CLS.

Very nice, Andrew! Congrats! I haven't been on CC lately, but got a random notification from Tapatalk on this post! I shall now put a reminder on the calendar to check in at the end of September-hoping for another fun filled live report [emoji4]

Hot Rod Power Tour is a Sven cities in 7 days car show. This year it started 16 hours away from my home in Kansas City. A week later it ended in Bowling Green KY which was a 10 hour drive from home. I met people from Hawaii, Finland and South Africa along with a few other Canadians and the vast majority being from America.

There were approx 8,000 people doing the "long haul", which is the entire tour. At each daily venue there were approx 20,000 people and the extras were local that came for the day.

I drove this 2010 Shelby GT500 in grabber blue.

I may or may not have left those burnouts.[emoji846]

Davenport MO. The Filling Station. In the days of old it had been a gas station.

Champaign, IL. The Rib Eye.

It doesn't look as good as it tasted. It was an older establishment that could use some new decor (think Tarantino style movie set) but the food was good. The salad bar was what I needed that day. I had, wait for it, the ribeye.

Collinsville IL, near St Louis. Porter's Steakhouse, right in the hotel.[emoji33]

It might look like a basic meal but let me tell you it was one of the best steaks that I have had in the States. RC needs to make them like this I tell ya. You could cut the filet with your fork.

Dinner that night at Scotties Brewhouse in Brownsburg, IN - near Indianapolis.

I had this.

What is this you ask. Pure deliciousness, that sounds wrong but is soooo right. It is a Texas garlic toast grilled cheese sandwich filled with BBQ brisket and mac and cheese. OMG.

On the last night in Bowling Green KY I had a "healthier" salad at a family run restaurant in a strip mall. We met a local who had been going there for years and said it was the best kept secret in town. He wasn't wrong.

I find it hard to believe that a Sept 30 sailing is in that high demand. It's usually a low season.

Me too, but I am thinking it is the Star Class cabins that they are looking for.

I called RC yesterday to inquire about this same topic. We have a balcony booked on the Allure coming up in October and we have not paid the cruise off yet. I called to see if they would be willing to give us any OBC for paying off early but they stated it was only for select cruises and JS and up. Guess I will be waiting till the last day to pay it off... Would have been happy with $100 obc to pay it off on the spot.

I do understand though that they are doing this to solidify the reservations on the suites that dont have as much quantity and are worth more money.

Cruising on ships or in cars, I love them both. [emoji846]

The following below were my final thoughts on the tour which I posted on a FB Tour Group that I am a member of. Paco that I mention in it, was a gentleman that unfortunately passed away in a car accident while on the tour, which was no fault of his own. Sadly he was at the wrong place at the right time.

As a solo rookie who just finished his first HRPT, I wanted to put together my final thoughts. I first want to thank my fellow group members here. I actually only joined FB because of Power Tour. I asked many questions and you helped to answer them.

I wanted to do PT for a long time, but life got in the way, and when it might have worked the start and finish points didn't for me. This was finally the year that it all worked out and it was everything that I read it would be and more. From friendly folks to new friends. Then there were burn-outs, sunburns, and BBQ with burnt ends. Thousands of miles were travelled and my windshield was a canvas from rolling hills, to flat farm land, rural villages and larger cities and all of the people along the route consistently sitting and waving back at us. Oh, there were a few dead bugs too.[emoji6]

There were many emotions that I felt through the week. The first exit ramp from KC gave me an idea of what to expect for seven days. There must have been 50-100 folks sitting there waving at us. It almost gave me goosebumps it was so cool. It's hard to believe that we must have waved to thousands of families who were waiting for us to pass them by. There was excitement, adventure, and perhaps a touch of heat exhaustion.

However, none of that compared to the sadness I felt as I read about Paco and his passing. I have often said the ones that pass become the welcoming party for the next that go. I know this won't make life easier for his family, but he will have been met by good people such as my father and daughter. There will be others too, that each of you will think of to whom you have lost.

Now that the trunk has been emptied, my laundry washed and put away, I have had a chance to look through all the pics that I took. I have tried to explain to my wife what she has missed, but it is hard to do. It was really like having a family reunion with a family that you knew you had, but never met. From your "Uncle Paul" who drinks a bit to much, to your nephews that are a lot of fun, to your Aunt who has a great sense of humor - it is a reunion.

I might take a different car or maybe the same one but it won't be Plan A or B. My plan is just to be there. I know I will be back, and if I didn't meet you this year I hope to next year.
