The list of drinks included in UBP

jdvmd or anyone else, may I please ask if you can explain the "folio" to me.

We are 10 people sailing on the Breakaway in July, my mother is taking my family and my sister's family.

She would like to purchase the drink package prior to our boarding so it's just purchased/paid before we cruise but she does not need the package. Can this still be done? I understand soda packages have to be included for the kids.

We have 4 cabins:

Cabin 1: my mother and my dd-18 (not purchase package)

Cabin 2: My dh, ds-15 and me (We have connecting cabin with my mother so if my mother/dd do not have to purchase alcohol/soda package, I'll put my ds in my mother's room, just on paper since he doesn't like soda).

Cabin 3: My sister, her ds-under 10 (Would purchase alcohol/soda)

Cabin 4: My bil and 2 children under 10 (They would have to purchase the alcohol/soda package)

Once we get onboard, we would all have our own credit cards (one for my family, one for my sister's family and one for my mother) per cabin.

So, can my mother pre-purchase the alcohol package/soda for kids and not purchase for herself?

Thanks so much!

Cannot be purchased ahead of time.

Think of the folio as your charging account. Whomever is on your account that has charging privileges will have to purchase alcohol/soda. If mom is only paying for herself, then she will have to just purchase it. If you are paying for all your kids, then they will have to have a package - either soda or alcohol if old enough (21+) unless you sign the alcohol waiver but that is a whole new can of worms.

Thank you. I thought I had read that it could be purchased ahead of time. My mother is paying for the full cruise, excursions and drink package. Casino, speciality restaurants and souvineers my sister and I will pay for.

So, if we walk onboard and they are selling it once we walk onboard, I guess I can say tell the crew member what cabins want the package and my mother's card could pay for it.

Even if we (my sister and I) have our own credit cards on file for each cabin. It could determine though if I change my ds into my mother's cabin on paper.

It is way too bad it cannot be purchased before boarding so it could be paid before one boards, just like we can basically prepurchase anything else.

OR, possibly it may be an option to then just have my mother purchase onboard credit for my sister's cabins any my cabin in the amount of the drink package. I guess that would work too.

If you purchase the drink package, do you get a sticker on your room key like you do for soda - or do they have to scan your card every time you order a drink?

They put a sticker on your card but for no apparent reason. On the Star 2 weeks ago they took my card every single drink and brought me a receipt to sign. They had to take both my card and DH's card if we both wanted a drink. It was so inconvenient!

ok people dont think im an alcoholic or a sloppy drinker but i like to have fun and just want to know if shots are included??

I don't see why not, it wouldn't be any different than scotch on the rocks only sans ice and you gulp it instead of drink it.

And most would do something like sambuka etc in a shot.

So I would think if it was on the list you could get it without the mix = shooter... voila.

They were happy to just take one card on spirit except for the Galaxy Lounge where a LOT of the bar tenders seemed VERY grumpy and rude (lots of passengers commented on this).

No more so than ordering a drink the regular way with one bright side- you don't have to worry about the bill at the end:).

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

The UBP is the Ultimate Beverage Package. It is a new program that NCL is offering fleet wide sans the Pride of America. It includes beer, wine by the glass, well drinks, soft drinks etc. Cost is $49 USD per person + a 15 percent automatic gratuity. Must be purchased for the length of the cruise at the beginning of the cruise. Also, everyone that is listed on your shipboard account aka "folio" must purchase the package. If they are underage, they must purchase the soda package. Doesn't include premium liquors, wines by the bottle, anything from the mini bar, sodas by the can (only glass) and bottled water.

Re: beer and wine, someone posted in another thread recently that NCL has also begun offering an unlimited beer and wine package for much less than the UBP (something like $20 per person per day, I think), although I believe it has many restrictions (only draft beer and only served from particular bars or restaurants on the ship).

The restriction only served in the dinning rooms with meals ! $18 a day.

I thought someone said you could order at a particular bar near the pool and get refills from the poolside servers. I may be mistaken.
