We went to Merida a while back by private cab from the pier. It was $70 total for four of us, much cheaper than the $49PP ship bus tour, which you cannot drink beer on. Our driver, Fernando, was super. We stopped at a convenience store and picked up 4 beers,a coke , and a water for $5 total. We visited the square where we shopped around and had a nice lunch overlooking the square. If you are not wild about Progresso, this is a nice option. We gave Fernando a twenty and he was elated. This slideshow is mostly Merida and then Isla Pasion by power catamaran Cozumel..

Hi there. We mainly just walked around the square . Went in the old cathedral and the museum, shopped around , had lunch, really nothing in particular. I did not realize that Merida has like a million population..I guess I am not a lot of help, but I think you might enjoy it. You can also do the Autoprogreso bus there for little expense, but it was nice just to have the private cab. Enjoy your trip .:)
