Oceana refit 2012

Hi

I am thinking of booking a cruise on the Oceana. Has anyone been on her since the recent refit? What is it like and what work was done?

regards

Cathy

It isn't vastly different to before with the exception of Le Club which is now much better. Main change seems to be upholstery of furniture in atrium and new carpets. Other than that, we struggled to see what was different.

Thanks. I visited the ship for a day last year & was not very impressed. I was hoping the refurb would be more extensive, especailly in the cabins. The only reason we are looking a this ship is that it's the only one going out of the UK to the med on a date we can go. Still not booked it, still need to be convinced.

In my limited experience of P&O ships (3x Ventura, 1X Oceana) I found Oceana more welcoming than Ventura despite being older with less facilities. I thought all the venues on Ventura were perpetually crowded and the bars less friendly than the excellent yacht and compass on Oceana. Oceana was a lot more relaxed as well with the friendly crew outclassing the miserable lot on Ventura.

I have booked her again for a 14 nighter to the med next summer with a very low single supplement and £290 obc :D In fact i have booked again as well for jan 2014;)

IMO there was nothing much wrong with Oceana that a little tlc would not cure, so refurbishment rather than refit was a good choice. If it's not broken, don't fix it. When P&O refit the changes are usually detrimental and involve the loss of public space to new revenue raising facilities.

Does the problem with the public toilets on 'D' deck still exist? The toilets are forward of the atrium and Winners Bar and the Casino are aft. The problem is to get to the toilets from Winners etc you have to go to the deck below as you can't go through Cafe Jardin. Obvously the garden kaf was never meant to be a cover charge restaurant.

I don't know about the evening but over New Year during the day you could walk through Cafe Jardin, even though people were eating.

Yep, during the day it is free ut at night i noticed a 'bouncer' keeping the unwashed out helped by those thick ropes on stanchions.

Very true, and indeed it was not in the early days of Oceana. In the evening it was a casual pizza/Italian at no extra charge, and very pleasant it was too. Then P&O got greedy .....

Unfortunately reading the recent reviews describing buckets in the corridors, it seems they weren't able to fix much!

I do like the new coloured lights out on the pool deck though. Makes it look so much nicer at night and during deck parties.

Hi Thanksfor the advice. P&O told us the whole ship has been refurbished so we have booked it. Now we've been asked if we would be interested in an upgrade to a mini suite, probably D748 or D 751. Would we gat alot of motion here or nosie form Starlights?

Thanks

Cathy
