Because the schools are so keen to fine anyone taking time out of school we cannot take our holidays in term time so it seems the best and cheapest option would be from May 22nd (inset day) -30th. Are there any bargains for that week? We really would prefer somewhere hot so we can laze in the sun when we are not exploring! (2 adults and one child)

Caribbean. Though it's quite late in the season, not sure there'll be any direct UK fly/cruises in late May. A US ship out of San Juan would give you more ports-of-call than ex-Florida, though US ships generally aren't so port-intensive.

Or the Canaries.

Or the Med. Probably eastern Med - majoring on Greek islands, as Essiesmom's post, though they do tend to come with some ancient-sights ports as well, such as Athens, Katakolon, and Kusadasi - none of them known for their scenery or beaches.

South America does have some nice beaches, but such long & expensive flights would be wasted on a beach-type holiday.

P&O/ Thomson ships return in March/April from the Caribbean.

I find anywhere in the Med hot enough for me in May. Have a look at what's sailing from Barcelona, if it's just a week you're wanting- or a Thomson cruise from Palma, because they include the flight from regional airports.

Also, look at what's going out of the UK, because the cruise lines have cottoned on to the fact that children can't sail in term time, and some ships will seek to use this in their planning.

P&O will have a ship sailing for a week from Genoa to Venice, or Venice to Genoa, which will include air and transport to the ship (Oceana) It's a child-friendly ship.
