My husband and I have been on 2 Disney cruises with our children. Now they are grown and will not be joining us. Would like to find a comparable "experience" with an emphasis on first rate dinning and accomodations. Would the RCCL Enchantment of the Seas compare? We are researching the 5-night cruise to Bermuda, departing from Norfolk, VA. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

I think any Royal Caribbean or Celebrity cruise would be fine.

We have done DCL twice and RCL once. We enjoyed Disney, but loved Royal. We are booked on a B2B out of San Juan this summer and never even looked at what Disney had to offer.

I would suggest Radiance class ships (Radiance, Brilliance or Vision of the Seas) would be your best choice.

Vision is NOT a Radiance class you got two with Radiance and Brilliance and the other two are Jewel and Serenade, all beautiful ships.

I've sailed Disney twice, and RCCL twice. RCCL suits the various needs of each member of my family. Last edited by tneah; November 6th, 2009 at 09:44 PM. |

I'll let you know next week! I've only cruised Disney (loved it!) and will be on Enchantment of the Seas in just a few days.

The entertainment was more diverse. The accommodations were nicer. I loved the bathroom showers. The Mariner is just a new ship than Disneys, so more updated. I'm sure the new Disney ships will be awesome when they arrive. We are going on the Freedom this December and I'm sure we will be very happy. My husband and I took a cruise on the new celebrity Solstice not too long ago. It's a gorgeous ship...top rate all the way, but in my opinion a little quieter and elegant...not quite as much fun but I enjoyed it too.Sorry to go on so long, but I am absolutely positive you will love RCCL! ENJOY!

We have done both Disney and RCL. When planning a family cruise we chose Royal because there was more to do for all the age groups.
Personally, I prefer the Radiance Class ships. Not only is there is more light but it is easier to get around. We have sailed on most the different classes of the RCL ships including the Voyager class. We do have a freedom class booked for Feb. I found the prominade on the Voyager class dark and when sitting at Cafe promenade it is not much different than sitting inside a mall. On the Radiance Class ships there are more levels to see the different events and there are windows all around most of the decks. But it just depends on personal taste and what you want and expect from a cruise. What ever you decide, have a great trip. |

Our first RCCL cruise ship was the Explorer of the Seas, from Florida, now it is stationed in NJ where we took it to Bermuda (our 1st Bermuda Cruise this past spring), we love the voyager class ships. We did disney 2 times when it was the big red boat in fact it was our very first cruise was a 4 day on the Star Ship Royal, and we were hooked on cruising, that was 24 yrs ago. 2 days in Bermuda was not enough time to see all the beaches (we were there over a national holiday), but Trunk Bay was very small but delightful, make sure you are up to walking up steep hills, and would not recommend renting a moped, (husband and I got in big argument over that, thank goodness I won, because we saw very experienced drivers coming back with road rash and broken bones), get the multi ferry/bus pass so you have unlimited travel options. Enjoy Bermuda, it was lovely, I would go back again in a heart beat. Disney doesn't have a casino, and since we don't have small children or grandchildren yet, don't think I could handle it. We are doing Disney this year for christmas the first time at christmas (we have a time share) and will be there for 2 wks, rest of family will rotate in and out depending on their vacation days. We did a 3 day on the Majesty of the Seas, it was very run down, but had a great time anyway, with a stop at Co Co Cay (jelly fish ruined the snorkeling), but it was a nice trip anyway, We loved the Mariner but they shipped her out to California, debated on making the cross country flight just to sail on her again.
Have a great cruise on RCCL, eventhough cruising has changed so much in the last 20 + years, it still is a great value for the price. |

The accommodations on the Mariner were better. We got a veranda for the same price as an ocean view on Disney. For a couple traveling without children, I think overall the entertainment on the Mariner is better. The Ice Show is spectacular. Also, the production stage shows have live musicians (instead of pre-recorded music), and there are many more live music venues. My only pet peeve is that some entertainment venues (such as the Wig & Gavel) allow smoking, and many guests would step in just to smoke instead of going outside. Woody |

We have cruised RCCL several times, last summer we (4 of us, DH, I and boys, 12 & 16) did a Disney cruise. The food in the Disney MDR's was not good, we did have brunch at Pailo's, very good, additional $15.00, was worth it. The room on Disney was much better then RCCL, you can't beat the split bathroom. I did not get the Disney magic on the ship like I get in the parks. We are paying a little less for a 7-night, 2 room (prom rooms) on RCCL then we did for a 4-night, balcony room on the Disney. I don't think I will take a Disney cruise again, if I want to spend that much money for Disney magic, I will go to Disneyworld and leave the crusing to RCCL.

On RCCL you will now have access to a casino and no butter pats in the shape of mouse ears.

Our first cruise was on the Disney Wonder. Our second was on the Enchantment of the Seas. We thought the food was much better on the Wonder than the EOS. We don't care about having a casino so that didn't matter on the Wonder. We loved the adult only areas on the Wonder and never had a problem finding a lounge chair there. That was more of a challenge on the EOS. We also loved the adults only beach on the Disney private island and thought it was more more beautiful than the RCCL island. That said, we thought the EOS was a beautiful ship and loved the entertainment. We are cruising RCCL again in February and looking forward to sailing with them again.
