New Caledonia

We have very few "roll call" members for our October 31st cruise. Any lurkers out there who want to step forward now? The cruise is almost sold out.

Does anyone want to "meet up" at LAX prior to the flight and start chatting and discussing "tours"?

Which day of the week will you be in port here? We were in New Caledonia last year on the PG, and it does make a difference as to which day you arrive.

Ile des Pins is beautiful, and as we experienced great scuba diving. Kayaking, snorkeling are also on the to do list.

Noumea has a great shoreline walk where you can watch or involve yourself in wind surfing, there are tours to outer islands. Cheap public transit system to get around. We were there on a Saturday and Sunday, which meant stores and such closed down at noon on Saturday and didn't reopen until a P&O ship arrived Sunday about 4pm.

In New Caledonia the Central Pacific Franc (CPF) is the currency.

Our experience was the ship staff was unfamiliar with these ports, so you are basically on your own.

That would be a great idea. So far, I'm probably booking the Tranquility Eco Island and Turtle Sanctuary trip. I was in Vanuatu last summer and took the Round Island Safari which was a great way to see Vanuatu. This time I'm up for the snorkeling ! I have been investigating some independent tours in Ile de Lifou, Noumea and Ile des Pins and will post my findings here in the Roll Call once I hear back from the tour operators. Can't wait!!

Please post your independent tour ideas since we would be interested in them. We don't scuba dive.
