Overview of drink packages

Hi, the FIL just got back to me and (yay) he got the price drop on the fare for the 10 of us.

Now he is trying to understand the Beverage package policies. Yeah, I know, who isn't ; -)

So I have tried to gather up as much of the excellent advice I have found here and put it into a (hopefully) coherent format. I am also including menus I have gathered up around here.

I would appreciate it if you experts could eyeball it and let me know if I have any glaring omissions, errors or misrepresentations!

Thanks

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS ON THE MDR WINE LISTS...

Hi Everyone,

So there you have it, the 2012 Celebrity Wine List for the Main Dining Rooms.

Now as I understand it, this is the FULL LIST for the MDRs FLEET WIDE … but is not necessarily so that ALL wines will be available in ALL Venues… or in some cases there will be only a limited amount of bottles of some selections.

Specific Wine Lists for each of Celebrity’s Ships in the fleet will have the current availability… if one is seeking a specific wine, then you should consult one of the MDR’s Sommeliers.

I would like to once again thank the wonderful crew on the Celebrity Solstice who got this info to me…

Igor – the Maitre D’ of the Grand Epernay Dining Room

Amir – the Head Sommelier

Now that's a comprehensive list!

We opted not to get any of the packages since we don't do sodas and won't be drinking enough alcohol to make it worthwhile.

It would be helpful if you posted the drinks that are complimentary? Regular water, ice tea?

I also have a teenager who will need his milk - any chance that is free?

Thanks for all your work putting that post together!

WOW! You have been busy! lol

Really gotta love it though!

I will be trying my first Premium Package on the Silhouette in two months ( April 10th Sailing) and have been paying attention to posts and the website for listed "beverages". Took advantage of 10% discount offer a couple weeks ago too.

Thanks for your compilation!

Thank you for the complete list.

it is really helpful. i am thinking of bringing a really good bottle of my favorite wine and pay the corkage fee to have it with dinner in MDR. My travel companion does not drink alcohol. Yur price list has helped me make that descion.

Well cool, I'm glad having it in one place is helpful, but please can anyone say if I have described the policy correctly?

The other thing that is pretty helpful and cool in deciding this stuff is the excel spreadsheet that calculates your projected usage and tells you how much you might spend based on how you fill out the form.

It's here; https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtQ-heWqtag3dDB3dlRCdkk5MFJ6RFYycUM4T2Vocnc&hl=en#gid=0

To use it you need to download it and open SCREEN 1.

That's a very comprehensive list! Thanks for doing all the work.

Question: In the Premium Non-Alcoholic or Alcoholic packages, are the Glaceau, Hint, and Metromint waters also included? The package descriptions mention Evian, Perrier, Pelligrino and Vitamin Water, but do not specifically address these other brands. My wife and I are huge fans of couple of these (there's a case of Hint out in the garage) and want to make sure these are included in the premium packages.

Thanks for all the hard work! I would have loved having this info all in one place when agonizing over a recent decision to purchase a package. In the end we each had the premium package and loved it. Drinking enough to make it worthwhile money-wise ended up not being an issue for us in the end - we forgot about that - just having the package made the cruise so relaxing and fun. We will definitely do it again.

A couple of things you may or may not want to include:

-the special $13 cocktails ordered from the ipad in Qsine are not covered by the Premium package - you will need to pay full price, instead of the difference.

-if you have a drink package, you will only be able to get one drink at a time in most places. If both people in a couple have a drink package and one person goes to get drinks for both people, bring both cards and they will give you 2 drinks.

What a LOT of work!! My hat is off to you for taking on this big task.:D

Thank you SO much. This will be so helpful to so many.

Hi,

The information in the menus is not my work, lots of people have gone to a lot of effort to get the info from their cruises and post it up here. All I did was collect it up for my FIL ; -)

Which means I have no idea about things like specific waters not listed. (sorry ORDMan)

I just did the compilation of the bev packages to help him figure out what he wants to do. He didn't understand when he booked that things like soda were not included. Since his big motivator for this trip is having all 4 grandkids along he wants to make sure he covers all the bases!

I realize now that I see the questions that I need to add in the info about what IS included so he knows that if he doesn't get the packages it's not like anyone will dye of thirst ; -)

Yes, WOW!!, what a super comprehensive listing. Great work!! For those who might want a little shorter, more basic listing, here was our cruise key summary of the detailed specifics from our mid-June 2011 cruise on the Solstice from a menu/pricing card that I borrowed from the Sunset/Oceanview area:

BEERS: At $4.50 each (plus the added 15% service charge), it is Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors Light and Miller Lite; at $5.00 (which goes to $5.75 with tip), there is Amstel Light, Beck’s, Corona, Corona Light, Leffe Blonde, Heineken, Heineken Light, O’Doul’s (NA), Red Stripe and Samuel Adams; at $6.00 (which goes to $6.90 with tip), it is Bohemia, Grolsch, Guinness, Stella Artois, Newcastle Brown Ale and Peroni.

RED WINES: At $5.50 each, Cabernet Sauvignon/Pinotage “Basket Pressed” Heron’s Nest, Stellenbosch; at $6.50 each, Tempranillo, Marques de la Concordia, Crianza, Rioja; at $7.50 each Cabernet Sauvignon “Heritage” Wente Estates, Livermore; at $8.00 each, Merlot, Rutherford Ranch, Napa Valley and Shiraz “The Barossa” Peter Lehmann, Barossa Valley; at $8.50 each, Chianti Classico Riserva Tenuta di Nozzole, Tuscany and Pinot Noir, Kendall Jackson, “Vintner’s Reserve”.

WHITE WINES: At $5.50 each, Viognier, Maison Paul Jaboulet Aine, Rhone Valley; at $6.00 each, Riesling “Kabinett” Selbach-Oster, Mosel; at $6.50 each, Sauvignon Blanc, Southern Right, Walker Bay; at $7.50 each, Pino Grigio, Bollini, Trentino; at $8.00 each, Chardonnay, St. Francis, Sonoma; at $8.50 each, Pouilly Fume “La Moynerie” Michel Redde, Loire Valley.

ROSE-BLUSH: At $5.50 each, White Zinfandel, Beringer, North Coast; at $6.50 each, Rose de Provence, Jean-Lux Colombo.

The $8 glass of wine goes to $9.20 with tip added. A $6.50 wine goes to $7.48 with tip.

NON-ALCOHOLIC: At $2.50 each, it is Evian, Pellegrino and Perrier smaller-sized; at $3.00 each, they offer Arizona Premium Iced Tea, Green Tea, Lemon Tea, Peach Tea and Diet Lemon; at $4.00 each, they had Strawberry Banana Soda, Peach Sangria, large Evian and Pellegrino, Sparkling Mint Lemonade and Watermelon Tropic; at $5.00 each, it is Red Bull, regular and sugar-free. They also offer various Coca-Cola soft drinks, but those prices were not listed on this card.

We were very happy with the free ice tea, juices, etc., that were available.

If you have a port-intense cruise, you might find it harder to get your money's worth with some of the packages. As they say on TV ads with the disclaimer "mileage maybe vary", so it does depending on each person's personal needs, travel style and budget.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

TO TLCOHIO,

Please note that your Wine Listings in Reply # 11 above are not correct...

The lists & prices have all changed for 2012 for Celebrity (Fleet wide)

Many of what you have listed is either no longer available, or has increased in prices (which is why I compiled and posted the 2012 Celebrity Wine List) and that SARAFINADH has included as part of her OP here

Cheers!

THANKS for the update and newer info! Yes, sadly, I am sure those prices are higher and higher as Celebrity and other cruise lines need to get a better profit margins out of beverages in order to keep the "sticker price" seem better in order to battle for future bookings. Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

HI SARAFINADH,

I looked over your very comprehensive posting (wow lots of work, amalgamating all these threads into one).

And it does look you have all the bases covered, and between your OP and the info you've received here from the other replys, I think you have all the info in one spot.

I would just add... the following for info.

1- The 2012 Celebrity Wine List for the Main Dining Rooms are identical be it for the regular DR or Blu... at least when it comes to which wines are available "By the Glass" (although Blu goes into a bit more detail on their listing because they identify which wines are Organic - Biodynamic - or Sustainable)

2- I have the 2012 Celebrity Wine List for Tuscan Grille as well and will post the "By The Glass" list here for you to complement the fine work you've done so far...

LOL... Your FIL will have his hands full with all this reading (I sure hope he appreciates all the time and effort you are putting into doing the background research for him... as that truly is the most time consuming part)

Cheers!

Hi JohnB,

Thanks so much for the feedback! Just hearing from you that things look covered is a relief, because I know how much time you put into the menus!

I knew you are planning on posting additional menus as you are able, which is great, and the by the glass lists are especially helpful in evaluating bev packs.

I would love to see the Olympic list, but I don't remember ever seeing one and I don't think that is one you will have, is it?

Good info about Blu having the same menu although that won't impact us.

The inlaws are huge wine drinkers so this is important stuff for them. What's funny is that for the Spouse, the Spawn and me, water, iced tea and milk are the usual bev choices with perhaps a glass of wine at dinner, so part of what I am sending to him, after all this information collecting is "don't bother with beverage packages for any of us"

And I am sure he has no clue about the effort. When I sent him info a week and a half ago letting him know about a fare drop he was very reluctant to contact his TA. He was sure I must be mistaken. Couldn't imagine I had been watching the posted fares. Boy was he surprised when he got a $200x10 adjustment! It's just not in their nature to *work the system*, whereas I am ALL about finagling!

So thanks for the feedback, AND for your initial effort with that huge winelist!

Wow! What a list!

I just wanted to add that Coke Zero is also offered on the soda plan, and sodas can now be in the can, not just fountain.

This is important to someone like my husband, who hates Diet Coke, but loves Coke Zero (go figure....)

Just an fyi on the milk. I usually have milk with lunch. On several cruises I've had to ask someone to get it from the cooler. After a couple days, they would see me and just go get it. On the Eclipse in December they had large urns with milk by the coffee/tea dispensers. Only problem was it was lukewarm. I tried more than one and same issue. I did ask and was given cold milk from the cooler and they removed the warm milk in a flash.

We congratulate and thank you, Sara, for your outstanding work. We are glad to see this terrific update to the similar effort that we made in mid-2010. Our information and beverage lists were so popular then that CruiseCruitic made our thread into a "Sticky" that still gets many views and has over 1,000 posts (including some new ones every week).

Our old thread contains much of the same information as yours -- some in its post #1, and some substantial data that was added in subsequent posts in 2010. [We even see that you have used copy-and-paste for a bit of what we listed, and we are not at all offended by this.] But our old thread lacks the full-wine-bottle prices and information about the new wine packages that you have kindly provided.

We now consider our thread to be partially obsolete (due to 2010 prices, etc.) and difficult for people to deal with (because it is so long).

THEREFORE ...

We make the following recommendation/request/plea to the "powers that be" at CruiseCritic (administrators/hosts/etc.) who control things here at the forum ...

(1) Please REMOVE the "sticky" status from our old thread

(http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1243495) ... AND ...

(2) Please PROMOTE this new thread by "sarafinadh" to "sticky" status (at least for calendar year 2012).

.

.

.

Now, having taken care of that important matter, Sara, we have a comment and a question for you, evoked by the following information that you posted:

Classic package $44 per day unlimited ... all Alcoholic beverages up to $8.

*Note if you order an alcoholic beverage over the $5 or $8 price then you are charged the ENTIRE cost of your drink. NOT just the difference. ... It is often possible to order cocktails that are over the $8 price limit and request a “small” and have it count under your Classic package."

QUESTION: Can you (or anyone else here) give examples of [over-$8] cocktails that can be obtained in "small" versions by folks with Classic Packages?

COMMENT: We are very happy to read about these, but we are also very surprised that "X" would offer "small" cocktails. Why? Because someone with a Classic Package could drink two or more of them, consecutively, without incurring any extra charge -- thereby having consumed more than what is contained in one full-size drink ... and having caused a bartender to perform twice the labor. If that's what "X" wants to do, however, we will certainly not complain!

Again, thanks for this excellent new thread.

.

Another new beverage-related offer from Celebrity -- something that was not mentioned in our 2010 thread and is not yet mentioned in your new thread, Sara -- is the "Wine and Dine" packages that are available for people who want to dine in specialty restaurants.

To see an official advertisement of these packages from a December, 2011, Silhouette cruise, please look at page 3 of the PDF that was kindly created and linked for us by CruiseCritic member "FM." Here is a link to the PDF:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=218493&d=1326825118

At the bottom of page 3, there are lists of red and white wines, three or five bottles of which can be chosen when purchasing any of the three Wine and Dine packages. These packages (which are for multiple dinners for couples) result in significant to major saving$. [We have not checked to determine whether or not any of the wines in these packages is missing from your "master list" in the opening post.]

One last item, for someone who may have a bit of an obsession with details and comparative analysis of prices ;) ...

Here are links to the posts, in our 2010 thread, in which one can see lists of beverages and their old prices (which could now be compared to prices in Sara's list at the top of this new thread):
