Smoking on the eclipse

Not sure how to interpret your question [my reaction was opposite of PP]. Smoking on Celebrity is extremely restricted -- nowhere inside (not even in Casino), only one designated spot outside. So if you are a non-smoker, there is pretty much no place you need to avoid.

Smoking areas on S-class ships (Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse & Silhouette) include the following locations:

Deck 12 (Pool Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside just forward of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 14 (Sun Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port- (left) side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted.

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

Note that this is from information provided on the Silhouette in November 2015.

Where do they allow smoking on the Eclipse? Need to know where I should avoid. Thanks!

As noted in a post here about the smoking areas, you really don't need to worry too much since all those areas are outside and in corners and are quite obvious.

Thank you ...this is the info I wanted...guess my question was confusing....I wanted to know where the smoking areas of the ship were.....I want to avoid the smoking areas.... deck 15 outside of sunset bar...is that only smoking allowed on the port side??? not the entire Sunset Bar, right?

On our November Eclipse cruise we hardly even saw a smoker, even in those areas. We like the Sunset Bar and spent a bit of time almost every day there, at random times, and only twice did we see someone smoking. We were at sea and we stayed on the opposite side and I couldn't smell it.

I'm like you - I can't tolerate it at all - and I've not had a problem on Celebrity since they went smoke free. If I was a smoker I probably wouldn't even sail them because it's so restrictive.

I think your question was a good one.

Deck 12 port side is a problem area for non-smokers. The area set aside for smoking is partial covered by the deck above and the smoke does tend to contaminate a very much larger area, it is even sucked inside as the auto doors open.

Celebrity should only allow smoking where the air is readily dispersed

The sunset bar isn't a problem provide you choose the starboard side, being largely open the air disperses easily and seldom affects non-smokers.

I am a ex smoker of 27 years! My OH smoked till recently and now uses the electronic cigarettes. I have found NO problem at all on the Eclipse as the smoking areas are quite few and for example at the Sunset Bar/lawned areas one has the entire other side of the bar/ship to sit. I found the smoking u there pretty unobtrusive. The area on deck 12 is under "shelter" and as such it is about the only place on the ship I have ever "noticed" smoking. My OH has coped with the restrictions on the ship without too much trouble.

I would say that the situation is about the best compromise between smokers and non-smokers you could get

Reviving this thread from a few months back rather than creating a new one since I cannot find the answer in my searches. Are we likely to encounter smoke from the smoking areas on the balcony of a Sunset Veranda aft balcony cabin that's on the port side of Deck 6? Looking at the list of smoking areas, it seems that the Deck 5 smoking areas are mid-ship and forward. Has anyone experienced smoke making its way back to the aft cabins?

I'm pretty sure that's not something you need to worry about.

Below are the common smoking areas on Eclipse. Areas subject to change at the ship's discretion.

  • Deck 15 - Aft port side next to Sunset Bar
  • Deck 14 - Starboard side next to the Mast Bar
  • Deck 12 - Port side midship by bandstand area of outdoor pool
  • Deck 5 - Port side midship and forward

You may likely not even encounter smoking, with one notable exception.

Deck 6 port side cabins, midship, are directly above the smoking area and you may encounter smoke on your balcony. We specifically avoid those cabins for that reason.

That is interesting, my hubby uses his ecig also and is somewhat dismayed that he will have to stand among the smokers to use it. The reason he switched (5 years ago now) was to quit smoking and now he will be forced to inhale smoke unless he only uses it in the cabin. It seems rather unfair and discriminatory as the vapor is non toxic, water based steam and has no smell, much like a boiling kettle. Can't see why he cannot use it in any outside area. Ho hum

Using an e-cigarette in your cabin is against the rules too...

The issue with e-cigarettes is that is can be hard to tell whether the user is smoking a real cigarette or an e-cigarette, so companies ban the use of both.

I have to disagree, there is a growing market in the sale of non factory made vapor refills which means could contain anything. There is also very little research done into whether the vapor is harmless.

I would prefer to be nowhere near anyone smoking either cigarettes or ecigs, it is a choice to smoke either of these and being treat as a smoker is the price you have to pay to continue to do so.

In the UK these are generally considered to be the same as cigarettes and as such have identical smoking bans in public places etc.

Yes sometimes the steam does look a bit like smoke I agree, my point though is that yes it is his choice to use ecigs but that is because he has given up smoking and wants to stay that way...smokers have an area so why not provide a small area for ecig users so that they do not have to be in with the smelly smoke from real cigarettes, which is very very different from steam vapour, which unless you can see the vapour you cannot even tell someone is using it.

Great...want to spend time at the sunset bar but was afraid it might be too smoky....we leave in 9 days!

We did a B2B on the Regal Princess in Feb. Quite a few smokers. They even allowed some smoking in the Casino. They allowed smoking in the upper rear of the ship, but it managed to get sucked down a few decks from the wind as the ship travels along.

Also non smokers don't want be passively inhaling smoke from electric cigs. 1/ Long term effects not yet known. 2\I wouldn't choose to sit next to a boiling kettle and be covered in steam. I am an ex smoker and appreciate the difficulties if you smoke.
