on deck clothing

We are on the 21 day Panama Canal RT from LA starting 12/2. Numerous stops in Mexico plus Costa Rica, Guatamala and Nicaragua. For those of you who have done similar cruises this time of the year.... I'm wondering about clothing outside on the deck. Am I right in thinking that (once we get south of CA) for the most part we can be wearing shorts during the day and light sweaters at night? Thanks in advance for the tip!
