Don't recall the mocking of floating cranes, but they are a staple of the maritime industry, and particularly the building, repair, and salvage areas.

I found it interesting that they've chopped out the top of the aft two sponsons. Only two strand jack towers still there.

I thought of this thread when I took the photos, glad you enjoyed them. Still a very eerie sight when sailing past on a very similar build. Its quite a manoeuvre out of where we docked to get past the remains.

He who shall not be named mocked the use of a floating crane in his web site.

We just returned from a 26 day cruise, Tampa to Barcelona on RCCL Briliance of the Seas. We sailed past Giglio island en route beween ports of call of Livorno and Civitavechia, Italy. I asked the Captain if he could do a sail by salute to Giglio. He told me this was Royal Caribbean not Costa and I'd have to change cruise lines to do something that stupid. LOL

Ah, should have known. I guess mankind isn't smart enough to design computerized ballasting systems to keep a crane barge level while picking up a load, but then again, we were dumb enough to believe that the atomic bomb was real for 70 years. :p

The RCCL Captain is right: Royal's Nordic based Captains, would never do this, or ANY other "Showboating"!

Thank you for sharing your photos of the Concordia. Between the pix and the recent video, they provide a clear understanding of what is left.

G.M.T., whilst I'm pleased that the court has upheld the sentence I would imagine it will be another 6 months to a year before the final appeal is completed.

After the last few years of following this disaster our time is coming to a close. I'll take a moment here to thank all those that contributed to the recovery and removal part of this thread.

The camera has not been working for several days already. Up to the last time I saw it working there were no visible changes although the floating crane has been going about as usual. Haven seen it with a big piece in a while, though.

Another update link from Ship Recycling below, again with very limited information, interesting to hear 21 sponsons now removed;

http://shiprecycling.it/1204/

Yeah, I'd love to know which are remaining, as that would give a good indicator of progress on closing the breaches in the engine room. Probably also refute he who shall not be named about the bow falling off.

Report from yesterday saying 2 sponsons left attached, CC being moved to dry dock in about 2 weeks (have to Google Translate it)

No, no, no. You are listening to the psuedo-science and are obviously suffering from cognitive dissonance. What about the cocaine? What did they do with the polluted water? How has the bow been held on? It will obviously be towed out to sea and sunk, not to a drydock for scrapping. Atomic bombs don't work, no one walked on the moon, 911 never happened, and I'm the only one who knows the truth! :D:p:o

Last Sponsons Removed from Costa Concordia Wreck

The last two sponsons were removed from the Costa Concordia wreck this week, and the vessel is ready for transfer to dry dock. Deck 0 is watertight and the hull has been restored to autonomous buoyancy.

A decision will be made on Monday about which day next week the wreck will be towed to Dry Dock no. 4, where the final dismantling operations will occur over the next few months.

Amazing how every single prediction made by he who shall not be named over more than four and a half years was proven wrong. If I were him, I would quietly take down that web site and deny I ever posted such predictions.

On the serious side, it is a shame that the Partridge.it web cam is not working anymore. Last time I contacted the owner more than two months ago he asked me to access my computer via TeamViewer to "fix" something that would allow me to see the camera again. Something was preventing the web control from being able to see the camera and instead of telling me what to do he just asked if it was ok to use TeamViewer to fix it. I never replied since this was not an option. The camera never came back and it now seems to be offline. It appeared to be operated by some random guy out of his own Internet connection.

Just found these pictures from August 19. They appear to have been taken from aboard an arriving or departing ship. I am not posting the original images because they are too big to post here but each will have the original link.
