The Legend Review that I never thought would be posted

This review was from our cruise on the Legend the week of September 4, 2011. I have mentioned it in a few other comments on various topics, but truly, never thought I would post it. After e-mailing back and forth with Carnival and basically getting nowhere, and much discussion with hubby, I decided in favor of posting it. If you spend a fair amount of time in the casino, this review may be of interest.

So here we go...

We arrived at the port at 10:15am which was earlier than normal. My brother (Jimmy) and his wife (Lillian) were joining us so we waited for them outside the terminal. They arrived around 11am and we made our way inside. Usually we go right inside when we get there and it is early enough that there are no lines. This time we actually had to wait in a line that started at the top of the escalator and wrapped around a few times. It didn’t take long to get to the security x-ray check and we went straight to VIP check-in. My brother and sister-in-law were not allowed to check in with us but they were able to board with us. They had already started to board the ship by the time we got through all check-in process, so we got our embarkation picture taken and we were on the ship.

We went straight to the Lido Deck to get some lunch. Brad & I went to the Deli and Jimmy & Lillian got a little bit of everything else. Funny thing about my brother is that man can eat!

When we all finished we walked around and then found a table on the Lido Deck and ordered the DOD for each of us. Jimmy went to check out the gym and Brad went to the MDR to make sure we had a table for 4.

Rooms were ready by 1:30pm. We went to Jimmy’s room first. The TA booked him in a handicapped room which he did not ask for and would have had no problem switching if someone had requested it. As it turned out, they stayed in that room and, wow, was it big, especially the bathroom. We had never seen the inside of a handicapped room before so it was pretty cool.

Well, this starts innocently enough. Looks like th eonly major glitch, waiting in line, is due to waiting on others who aren't VIP for boarding but you're on board early anyway. No early issues with HC room either.

Waiting for the rest of the review, as I can't recall what your complaint to Carnival was about.

I want to read- thanks for sharing.

How long did it take to check in from the time you arrived til the time you got onboard

We normally get to Tampa around 10:30am and there are no lines so check-in is really fast. This time we got there at the same time but waited for my brother to get there so we didn't start checking in until after 11am. Either way, they usually begin boarding between 11:30 and 11:45am. BUT, the later you get there, the more people that will be in front of you and therefore, the check-in process is longer.:D

This comment really made me "LOL"!! Posting at work and even though it is all written and pictures are uploaded to Photobucket, I keep getting interrupted with my work. What a nerve.....:D

Next, we went to our room. We had upgraded right before we left from a regular balcony to an extended balcony, which we had never had before. I have to say, it was nice, but would we do it again? Probably not. I would like to try the Premium balcony though.

The beds were not moved together so Brad found Oka (our Cabin Steward) and he said he would take care of it.

I had ordered a bottle of Captain Morgan to be delivered to our room after sail away but it was already there at 1:30pm, which was nice. Brad had gotten a bucket of beer earlier and him and Jimmy had that while Lillian and I enjoyed our 2nd DOD in our room for a bit.

The other thing we noticed was that there was no fruit basket or water from Player’s Club. This has become a regular staple in our room on embarkation day.

Jimmy & Lillian went back to their room and Brad & I stayed in ours. Our luggage was at our room by 2:30pm. We unpacked right away and were ready for the Lifeboat drill.

I LIKE all your photos! We LOVE "Legend" and have sailed her many, many times, and always enjoy our cruises aboard that great ship. Can't wait to read the "rest of the story". :D We won't be aboard "Legend" again until Feb. of '12. WAY too long to wait!

When the announcement was made for the drill, we left our drinks in our room as requested and made our way to our Muster Station. There, right in the front row, was a man holding a can of beer and no one said a word. We kind of laughed it off but still wondered about the enforcement of rules.

Later, we met up with Jimmy & Lillian to watch going under the SkywayBridge. It’s always so spectacular, no matter how many times we experience it. Once we had started our journey out to sea, we all started acting kind of silly up near the Whale Tail. My brother introduced us to “planking”, which we did on various items. We were having fun and we were on vacation.

I had seen a great picture on CC of painted toes so before we left I brought the picture to a local spa and had a pedicure and they painted my toes like the ones in the picture. I wanted to get a picture of the ship’s coins with my painted toes, so that’s what we did. I even added a catchy phrase. Every now and then, there'll be a random pic of my toes.

Around 7pm, Jimmy & Lillian decided to go back to their room to see if their luggage had come. We went to the casino to introduce ourselves to the Casino Host as we always do. This, for us was the beginning of a week long nightmare in the casino. You see, back in June we were on the Inspiration and met and became very friendly with the Casino Host (Lorraine). She told Brad to go directly to the Casino Host on the Legend and let them know that he should already qualify for the free drink card. This is what he did when we went to meet David – the Host on the Legend. We introduced ourselves to David and Brad asked about the drink card. David said that he had already given out the 4 letters to the people that had prequalified and Brad was not one of them. Brad asked him to check the points again as he was told to check on this. David seemed to be put out but checked and said again that Brad did not qualify. Then Brad asked about the items from Player’s Club that should have been in our room that still were not there. David looked at us, obviously annoyed, and said he had nothing to do with that and we’d have to notify Player’s Club. I had to walk away at this point because I was getting aggravated with David’s attitude. Brad talked with him for a few more minutes and then came to me and told me he was getting no where with him so he, too, had to walk away. We played for about an hour and then headed to dinner.

Dinner, tonight, seemed endless. We really didn’t have a problem with this because it was the first night. However, when it got to be close to 10pm and we were not finished yet, I started getting kind of upset as I knew we were going to miss the beginning of the Welcome Aboard Show and I really love seeing that. We finally finished and we indeed missed the beginning of the show but watched the last half anyway.
