Make sure you take your EHIC card ashore with you as Martinique is an Overseas Department of France and therefore as much an integral part of the EU as the Shetland Isles

Because of this the medical aspects of your travel insurance policy will only cover medical treatment for which you do not have free entitlement through the European reciprocal health care arrangements.

All travel insurance companies will expect you to have claimed your right to free European medical treatment under these reciprocal arrangements and they will not re-imburse you for any treatment which you were entitled to have funded by the NHS.

However, unlike continental France, where the presumption will be that, as a UK citizen, you are entitled to free medical treatment, and will be able to produce your EHIC later, if you arrive on a cruise ship out of a US port, then, until you produce your EHIC, or your Carte Vitale - if you are normally resident in France, the presumption will be that you are a European with US residency and until you prove you are a 'paid up member' of an EU country's social security scheme you may

a) have difficulty in obtaining free health care.

and

b) have to make payments which you will not be able to recover from your travel insurance.
