That was a joke, hence the emoticon, but IMHO history is seldom if ever irrelevant.

I don't think a placebo achieves much in this case except to destroy a few more trees by needlessly printing the lists. What's the speed bump you refer to - taking a few screen shots off Press Reader? Hardly worth putting up a token wall
If people really want to digitise it all they need to do is scan the printed version and run OCR on it - that's hardly going to stop someone with nefarious intent
I agree with you personally, BUT the main reason companies use Press Reader vs. other solutions that give you greater access to the source files is because it forces you into screenshots in order to get electronic copies or work around the expirations they set. Crystal already bought that scenario as a solution once, I think it's feasible they could see Press Reader of value for similar reasons for the guest list.

I do not want to seem contrarian, given the enthusiasm for the PDF suggestion. And I see virtues in this idea. But I wonder if there are privacy issues and/or related concerns.

Yes, I know that the printed copy can be scanned as a PDF and (mis)used. But that would not be Crystal's doing.

If they are available on the web (and they could easily be posted there as menus and Reflections, etc., currently are) someone could easily collate these PDFs and various people would have lists of people who presumably have a bit of money.... Depending upon when they were made available -- and then found their way onto the web -- they might advertise to nasty folk that a family with a distinctive name from a smallish community with only one family with that name was away. Happy burgling. Or a stockbroker (or someone of more sinister disposition) looking for prey might find the list helpful. Etc.

Yes, I know one can opt not to be listed. And anyone can scan the current lists into PDF. But does Crystal want to be a party to these hazards?
I agree completely w/ Observer's opinion, and reasoning, on this subject. I do not think Crystal should be a party to making this not only potentially troublesome but even potentially dangerous identifying information (names & State/Province residence locations of its passengers) available online AT ALL.

IMO in this era of data-mining, Big Brother -- and probably even worse -- Observer's position is simply a matter of prudence and common sense.

I agree and also don't see the need for them to go to such efforts for this.

Many people want to remain below the radar screen regardless of how long they are on board and for those on for a long time I think they have additional concerns. Even on this board many only post on the roll call board because they want to remain below the radar and many don't want their identities known on this board either.

I think for someone who wants a PDF they can just take a hard copy and convert it to one if it is that important to them but it would be them doing it and not Crystal.

We don't want them at all. When we first sailed the Harmony and Symphony they were delivered to our stateroom every cruise. I am glad we now can opt out. We carry cards with us and choose who we want to stay in contact with.

The good news is you don't have to opt out. You won't get them unless you "opt in". In other words you would only get them if you stop by or call the reception desk to ask for them.

I interpreted her post to mean that she opted out of being listed in it at all (via PCPC) - and that's why she had cards to hand out to selected others they wanted to share their contact details with

Interestingly on our last cruise whilst some had cards to hand out, which was great, others simply shared their contact details via air dropping their contact entries with each other via their iPhones (the Android users felt a little neglected at that point - as they did when we were airdropping videos and photos to share)

One of our groups TA's had opted them out of the listing in the guest list, without their knowledge - they were most annoyed to find they weren't listed when we all started asking him if he was travelling incognito and had given us a false name (joking of course) - being a social butterfly he really wanted to be listed. So a word of caution for those who leave everything on PCPC to their TA - make sure they understand your wishes in this regard

Bodogbodog, you are correct and some people want to remain anonymous and some doctors on vacation do the same as I do including flight reservations. PCPC gives you that option.

Yes I understand - you certainly don't want them paging you on a plane or onboard requesting a sanitation specialist to make themselves known to the crew - best to stay incognito
Thankfully they never page for my occupation either...

We find the guest list a fun way to see if people we have met before are on board. We also look and have met people from our area and have enjoyed them, we would not have known them but for the listing in the guest book. Nothing nefarious here. I agree that you can easily leave explicit titles out if you don't want to be bothered with a doctor call....not many people care if you are a doctor or a CEO or a sanitation expert! You're there and that's good enough!

I agree! I enjoy looking at the guest booklet for the same reasons, and I enjoy seeing how many countries are represented ( although the Captain usually lists them at his farewell cocktail party.) I don't keep them all, but I have tucked away a few.

Crystal has been offering the option to have your name omitted for many years, so if people want their privacy in this matter, it's available.

For what it's worth, I think it's fine the way it is.
