Seems Royal caribbean is still losing bookings, because of smoking band.

Recommended Posts

Seems Royal Caribbean smoking policy is costing them.Could have been handled better. :)

I Just book a Europe B2B with a transatlantic, I love the no smoking. I had not cruised for 3 years on RCL now I'll reconsider since it's more like the other cruise lines with limited smoking.

Like the like, my DW once had a little accident with the perfume bottle, and had to stay in the room all night. I had to go out for awhile so it could air out a little I was sneezing so bad.

I almost wouldn't mind the sneezing............if my throat wouldn't close up!

I am lucky on that one, all it does to me is make me sneeze a lot. DW does have to be careful with her brands because some just set me off. I have walked quickly out of the MDR before so I would not be sneezing on peoples food after someone swam in the stuff and walked by.

I would think that if if locks up your throat, you have had to run out a time or two:)

Elevators are, hands down, the worst!

Talk about TRAPPED!!!!!

Sorry but this is incorrect as not everyone has the same penalty phase.

In UK/Europe for example folks who cancel even 365 days before their cruises, lose their deposits.

RCCL forgets sometimes about their International Guests.:(

While this is generally true, I have just cancelled a 10 person booking on the basis of a fundamental change of the booking conditions. In all fairness RCCL (UK) have agreed to refund all of the deposits.

I wish they would ban people that feel the need to bathe in perfume

Or make them sit on one side of the ship !:p

100%

Although in fairness, our issues with the above on RCI, Princess and Celebrity have been pretty much limited to formal nights.

Try sailing on HAL on a European cruise  There it was EVERY NIGHT, AND DAY.

We couldn't get away from the blue haired grannies who bathed in perfume.

We had to move in the dining room. We had to move in the theatre.

We even had to move on bus excursions. Terrible.

My DW was living on Benedryl the whole trip.

And? I just stated a fact..that is all. Why do you find it necessary to try to debate each thing I post on this thread? Have a nice day

I am merely pointing out the flaws in your logic. I deal in absolutes in my life. I am a software engineer, so using flawed logic results in failures in the things I work on.

The post is about people cancelling due to the change in the new smoking guidelines on RC. I used my parents as an example...that is all. There is nothing flawed in that. Go pick on someone else now.

It's hardly a single example. Many people have stated on here that they have cancelled or know people who have cancelled including me.

... and many people have booked because of the change, including us. The only ones who know are Royal Caribbean. If you see them reverse the policy, figure the change hurt them. (don't count on it)

We enjoy Carnival as well, but until they catch up with the industry, we'll be sailing RCI and Celebrity.

You may like Carnival, from recent experience, I can say there are plenty of smokers over there. ;) I really don't think any cruise line will want to be known as the line that caters to smokers, just as most good hotels have restricted smoking areas no smoking in any rooms (at least in the U.S.)

Having recently cruised for the first time and walking through the casino I would say that RCI are very much catering to smokers. All of the reasons that are quoted such as consideration for other guests and safety issues are just proved by this to be hypocritical.

The policy hasn't taken effect yet. We only transit smoky casinos when absolutely necessary, we don't gamble.

The important change to many of us, will be the ability to enjoy our balconies without being chased off it by cigarette smoke. It's easier to avoid the casino than my balcony. :)

Let me start by saying I am a smoker

Now I think Non smokers don't need to go into smoking areas if it bothers them so much. I also believe that if I am on my balcony then I should be able to smoke but if a cabin next to me told me it really bothered them then I would refrain from it out of respect for them and that they asked me and not whined to someone who worked on the ship I am all about adults talking to one another to solve problems I also will not blow my smoke in the non smokers direction and I'm conscious of non smokers around me and I do follow the no smoking rules in areas. Now the smell of beer on people makes me sick literally so should I demand that beer drinkers only drink on certain parts of the ship or within the beer drinkers space at restaurants? NO and I wouldn't be so ignorant to even ask that now for those who say smoking is worse second hand that beer smell. Well it depends on your beliefs and what makes you sick. Bottom line is whatever vice you have you should all be courteous of others around you who may be bothered by it. And yes I booked my cruise KNOWING that the new smoking ban on balconies and will respect that policy and smoke in designated areas

Jamie

I agree with you whole heartedly! The only trouble is that the "smoke-****s" will only be happy when smoking is banned from the ship entirely! I just came off an Allure cruise. The biggest cruise ship in the world and we didn't have a dedicated smoking lounge! We had an out-door bar that was very windy. All I'm saying is give us a well-ventilated indoor bar to enjoy our cigars and cognac in and we won't bother you! I promise!

That word after "smoke" that Cruise Critic won't print begins with "n" and has "azis" after it!

It's not the smoking ban that has bookings down it's those commoners that refuse to dress up on formal night dag nabbit . Also the fact that smokers are now akin to a lepar colony .

That's right!!! Those smoking slobs should be thrown overboard! Now, let's put this topic to rest!!!

Carnival still allows the balcony and Casino but we were just on the Triumph and my parents had one little corner of Deck 10 they could smoke on. It was a very small area. So it isn't like Carnival has smokers everywhere. The only place I noticed smoke at all was in the Casino and if it bothered me I just relocated. Machines have smoking/non smoking signs on them, so even the casino isn't a free for all anymore.

They must not be canceling our cruise im still waiting for a price drop. So all you smokers on Jan. 18th Indy cruise cancel soon so we can get a price drop:D Nothing against smokers I just quit 3 weeks ago so far so good.:)

Hey markadele...we will be joining you on that Jan. 18 cruise and the one following it since we are doing a B2B. I am a smoker (not heavy) and while I am not thrilled about the balcony ban, it is not the end of the world, and I will adjust. I know it is not good for me to smoke, so maybe I will think twice if I really need that cig if I have to go a distance to have it. Stranger things have happened!! Markadele...see you onboard!:D BTW...congrats on quitting !

I came for the band references and was not disappointed AT ALL! I love it!

I am normally the most outspoken person wherever I am, but recently I was in a mostly full elevator (on land) and a blue-hair with a gallon of perfume started to join us. This other, younger woman pipes up with her hand in the stop gesture and says (paraphrasing) "I'm sorry lady, but there is no room for that much perfume on this tiny elevator" and hit the close button. Everyone started chuckling, but I wondered how she could smell her and asked her. She had been trapped with her on the ride up earlier. That old lady's face was one of pure shock as the door closed.

I really think it must have something to do with your sense of smell going as you get older. You see some younger people bathe in it, but you are almost locked in with an old lady. You KNOW she's going to douse herself in a bucket of it.
