The cruise ship Orion has been diverted to rescue a lone French yachtman adrift in mountainous seas SW of Hobart in the Southern Ocean.
Orion is on its way back from Antartica & expected to reach the position on Sunday. AMSA coastwatch plane found the 63 year old yachtsman after receiving an alert from the sailors EBIRP. He is well protected in an imersion suit in a liferaft. It is too far for helicopter rescue - aircraft are keeping watch until Orion arrives. |

The Orion has rescued him.
Glad to see that there is another Orion that is doing above an beyond!! HMAS/M Orion was a great boat, that also completed extraordinary feats! |

His first meal aboard was Lamb Shanks and an Aussie Cab Merlot. I would like to be rescued like that for dinner tonight.
