LGA to Times Square transportation

Hi,

We are flying into LaGuardia and staying in a Times Square area hotel for a couple of days, pre-cruise. I will book a car service to get us to the cruise port.

My question, however, pertains to getting from LaGuardia to the hotel. I was planning on just taking a taxi. Is that an okay plan or is there some reason that it would be better to book a car service?

Thanks!

Taxi is fine, car service is fine. The advantage of using a car service is that your fare is fixed, while the taxi fare is metered and if you are stuck in traffic the meter will be ticking and running up your fare.

You say you're taking a car service to the cruise port, so I assume you're not cruising from Manhattan. There is no reason to take a car service from a Manhattan hotel to the Manhattan cruise terminal.

Thank you. Correct - we are cruising from Cape Liberty. That is why we'll be taking a car service to the port.

Assuming a taxi ride with no extraordinary traffic delays - do you know how the prices compare between taxi and car service from LGA to Times Square?

Either a taxi or car service should be about $35 - $40 plus tolls and tip from LGA to the Times Square area.

  • 4 weeks later...

If you can manage your luggage (some subway stations only have stairs), take the Q70 express bus to 74th / Jackson and transfer to the subway.

Which subway depends on exactly where your hotel is. Plot routes on Google maps or the MTA website.

Cost is $2.75 per person, plus $1 for the metro card, which up to 4 people can share.

Is it feasible to take subway/bus from LGA to Times Square hotel with carry on luggage? DH & I both will have 2 carry on suitcases each ...

Feasible, of course - depending on time/day of the week and your hotel's destination / distance from nearest subway station with working elevators, popular stops like Times Square are more visitors/traveler's friendly than others.

Ridership on buses & subways are up and even at off-peak hours with schedule adjustments, subway train cars can still get pretty crowded so you might need to stand for the trip while holding on to 4 suitcases, 2 for each of you. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/IMG_20140821_105020.jpg

If one is a roller or spinner and the 2nd. piece is a convertible carry-on that can be stacked on top while traveling, it would be ideal and easier to get around - and, your airline allows 2 carry-on per person ?? Or, is it a carry-on and a personal bag ... https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64025118/IMG_20140821_105102.jpg

The prices are similar the only other difference between car service and taxi is a taxi you can tell the driver the route. To avoid tolls etc. Car service the route is up to the driver and you will have to pay a toll if they chose that route.

Also car service there are extra fees for any stops where a Taxi it is just the time on the meter during your stop.

FWIW
