Entry requirement for Dominican Republic

In planning a November cruise that had a stop at Amber Cove, I contacted the Consulate about the need for visa or one of their tourist cards. Especially for my wife, who's passport often isn't sufficient, as my US passport is, for entry. The response from the Consulate said she would need one of their tourist cards. However, it was not needed when we went ashore at Amber Cove. No additional documents requested. Luckily, the cards did not cost much. But I thought others on these boards may want to know. I hope this is the most useful forum to post this.

Thanks for posting that - we are going to La Romana (for a few hours) on a cruise and have been unable to find anything much recent on this subject.

As you say embassy says you need a tourist card and doesnt mention cruise visitors. It is abit annoying that it is 10USD 10 Euro or 10GBP!!

now (13USD.) so a couple of drinks each if its not needed. ;)

Still undecided whether to go ashore anyway, not really beach lovers and

town seems a bit iffy. May just visit the shops on the dock if we are allowed

and if asked for a Tourist card just retreat to the ships bar.
