Which stop can I get off Flam train?

My DH and I would like to hike back to Flam. Which stop would be a good one to get off. A two hour hike back would be terrific.

We were given only one opportunity to get off other than at the final destination and waterfall and that was at the church. We had to tell the conductor before we reached it that we would be departing the train there. Otherwise I don't think they stop. It was about a 45 minute walk back to the ship if I remember right.

It looks like the train always stops at Kjosfossen and Vatnahalsen, but there are additional stops on request: Lunden, Håreina, Blomheller, and Reinunga. You just have to inform the conductor when you're boarding that you'd like to get off at a particular stop.

You can get off at Dalsboten - we always do - and have a walk of about 4 miles back to the ship. The last mile or so is flat, and in the village, bt the first 3 or so are in the mountains with trees, waterfalls, you know - the usual Norwegian stuff! :) It's all on a quiet road, so easy walking, with a descent of about 700 feet.

I can see that RCL has the train booked for excursions starting at 9:30 so the only train that will work on my own is the first train.

If I take the first train I can catch the 2nd boat that does the Fjord to GUDVANGEN and bus back. But that would be the only combo that works. So if I had to make a choice which should it be?

Really? The schedule incidates Dalsbotn as "Toget stoppar ikkje då stasjonen er nedlagd." ("The train does not stop due to the station being disused.") And the Norwegian Wikipedia page says that the stop closed permanently on 9 Dec 2012.

That's a pain. I wasn't there last year, so I didn't know that. Sorry for any misinformation.

Keep in mind that Norwegian hiking times are a bit optimistic for the rest of us. The walk down from Berekvam is around 2+ hours, but the schedule shows the stop only being available on the return trip for the first trip of the day.

Are you planning to take the train all the way up and get off on the way back? (Most people consider the Kjosfossen waterfall to be a highlight of the train trip.)

Yes I am planning on going all the way. What do you think about Otternes Farms, is it a nice walk?

If you were going to Flam what would you do, any insider tips..LOL
