Default What to pack for Iceland and fjords

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what type of clothing I should be packing . I am cruising on the Oriana on the 18th august and visiting Iceland and the fjords. do I need mainly wollies or summer stuff and cardigans? I also wanted to ask if my husband would be ok on the formal nights in a suit.
thanks a lot
Maria

Pack whatever clothes you need for temperatures in the 10-30 degrees range, and be prepared for sun and rain. It won't snow, and it won't reach Maltese summer temperatures. Northern European weather is variable.

And before anyone else says it, you will be advised to wear layers! It is widely assumed that many people would leave the ship wearing a fur coat over their underwear, and so be unable to take anything off (well, perhaps the uinderwear!) if it gets warmer. No, wear a shirt, then a jumper, then a coat on a cold day, so you can take off one or two layers as appropriate.

For formal nights, a dark suit is expected. Most of the men will be wearing bow ties, but a high proportion are no doubt ready-made not tie-ups, and many are worn with an ordinary lounge suit not a dinner jacket.

If you're reasonably active people and have any excursions booked, you might want to take walking shoes. We went to Greenland, Iceland and Norway on Aurora and most of the excursions we booked had the option of a short walk. Our waterproof walking shoes enabled us to explore a little off the gravel paths and away from the crowds and kept us on our feet when we visited a glacier in Iceland. On excursions I carried with me a small rucsack with our lightweight waterproofs in and never needed them...10 ports of call and 10 lovely sunny and warm days (June/July).

I am recently back from my 2nd fjords cruise...wehad 24-28 degrees and sunbathed on the deck and even swam in the pools. Lots got caught out as they hadn't packed sunbed clothes. Some were baking in tshirt and jeans.

The 1st fjords cruise was typical Norway weather - drizzle, cloudy or bright and sunny but cool. So yes take ; t shirts, shorts, jumpher, fleece and a waterproof....ooh and swim /deck wear...

A dark suit is fine for formal night but most men wear a dinner suit/tux, especiall on Oriana., which is child free and seems very formal and refined.

Layers... we went to Norway and Iceland last year... sea days can be chilly especially 66 degrees north !!!!!! so a zip top or hoody are useful for walking around the prom deck... I took pashminias and had one on most days as if my neck is warm then I am... I put shirts over t shirts as well for alittle extra layer. we had lovely sunny weather and around mid day it was hot just early and later it got chilly... but never cold... unless you feel the cold which some people do so in that case you may need a bit more like a fleece as well... as I said its the sea days sitting out or walking around the prom where you need the warmth. A few folk never even went out on sea days as they didnt bring any warm bits with them.

It is on cold sea days that indoor pools come into their own.
