Carnival Spirit 7A Obstructed View Balcony?

I've been doing a little digging online into these cabins to determine if it's worth the upgrade from OV to balcony for an Alaskan cruise next May. Everything I've read says YES to balcony for Alaska, but the obstructed view makes it hard to pull the trigger for the cost difference.

I looked at photos and it looks like the 1st three lifeboats on either side are the higher ones, and those are more "obstructed" than the back three? Does that sound right? (Of course the balconies on the back three boats are already booked, who knew 9 months out wasn't enough time out to book!?! Guess Alaska IS that popular!)

Thoughts? Anyone stayed in a 7A on Spirit or comparable? Thanks!

I have not at least not yet, LOL

I am actually ready to book on Legend.

JMHO it is a great choice. :D

Take a look at cruiselinerooms DOT com look at legend stateroom 5236.

It is a 7A but with a special treat of a large balcony. The tops of lifeboats only prevent you from looking down but not out.

Cabin 5236 7A 185/110 sq ft

Beds: twin/king

View: window and large obstructed balcony connecting balconies: yes

Features: TV; telephone; 110 AC current; individual climate control; hair dryer; safe; minibar; 3-closets; shower; sofa and coffee table.

If that stateroom is available snatch it up, LOL

FYI 5238 and 5245 are both modified HC with the same large balcony.

LOL Can you tell I am ready to book, LOL:D

CATEGORY 7A

Each stateroom has a standard balcony that is obstructed by the roof of a lifeboat or tender boat (and davits).

Obstructed by Lifeboat

The roof of the lifeboat is somewhat level with the balcony floor; therefore, while sitting on the balcony, you have an ocean view when looking straight ahead but an obstructed view when looking down.

· Port Side: 5168 5170 5172 5174 5176 5178 5180 5182 5184 5186 5188 5190 5224 5226 5228 5230 5232 5234 5236 5238

· Starboard: 5169 5171 5173 5175 5177 5179 5181 5183 5185 5187 5189 5191 5227 5229 5231 5233 5235 5237 5239 5245

Obstructed by Tender boat

The roof of the tender boat is somewhat level with the top of the balcony railing; therefore, while sitting on the balcony, the view is obstructed – if standing on the balcony, you have an ocean view when looking straight ahead but an obstructed view when looking down.

· Port Side: 5142 5144 5146 5148 5150 5152 5154 5156 5158 5160 5162 5164 5166

· Starboard: 5143 5145 5147 5149 5151 5153 5155 5157 5159 5161 5163 5165 5167

We had cabin 5234 on the Legend. The view was great, just could not see straight down into the water. I would definitely go for an obstructed balcony rather than an oceanview.

SuzyQ- may I interject my personal opinion here.

Alaska is amazing. Get a balcony- but one you can really enjoy the scenery on the privacy of your own balcony.

An oceanview is ok- for a cariibean cruise- but for alaska you will need to be up on the public decks jockeying for position against the rail for a view.

Could be noisy-- but with your own balcony-- its spectacular.
