Feedback on the Sun

We booked a South America cruise...this will be our third one To SA and love it. The promos were so good, and was able to get suite 8003. We have cruised many times, and have had different experiences. Cost I will say did not mean a great trip.

This ship has mixed reviews, and although we are set to go, even have our airline tickets..would love some feedback.

My Sun SA remains my favorite to date.

Sun is my favorite ship. I prefer aft PH. I like Il Adagii/La Cucino, Great Outdoors and forward Observation Lounge.

Thank you. The first time we did this trip was on the NCL Crown. Nice ship. Second time on Celebrity. I think the Zenith. It was just too good of a deal to pass up!

The aft Penthouse were all gone, but the front one should be fine.

Can't comment on the suites, however I'm getting ready to do my third cruise Sun. The Sun may be a smaller ship without all the bells and whistles of the bigger ships, however still a nice ship. Both times DH and I have been on the Sun the Staff, crew, entertainment, and food were great.

Enjoy your trip. :D

The Sun still remains my favorite ship. We have done 4 times aft suites and this last time we were fwd. You can't go wrong with any suite on the Sun. Yes she is an older ship and doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Depends on what you want on your vacation. I have found her to be a very intimate ship. I prefer the smaller more intimate ships. I want to relax and just enjoy my time when we cruise. I have found the crew, staff everything about the ship is wonderful. Every time time we cruise on the Sun it feels like home. Comfortable... I hope you enjoy her as much as we have.

Glad to hear that the Sun is a great ship. We are doing the Seward - Vancouver cruise this year and will be in regular balcony for the first in four years. We always cruise in suites, but we are travelling with family this year so we need to travel in a balcony.

Thank you for the positive comments. Yes, I agree. Quiet and pleasant is my kind of ship. We are taking our son and grandaughter on the Breakaway in September...but booked in The Haven. So that should be pleasant.

Again thank you for the good feedback. Went on. "6 star" cruise to Asia, and that was a joke.

Sounds like we are both real Sun fans. I was on another ship/another line in November when we tendered and the Sun was also anchored off-shore. I must tell you I wished I could jump in and swim to the Sun and stowaway. Just for a moment I imagined myself doing so with all my belongings mysteriously waiting for me on the Sun. Haha. Then I came back to reality.

Been on the Sun 4 or 5 times. Just a nice relaxed, comfortable ship with a nice crew. Her mini suites are great. As others said, she is smaller and without all the bells and whistles. Great for just relaxing and taking it easy. The Sun and the Pearl are our favorites.......although whatever ship I'm on is my favorite right at that moment.

Was just on the Sun in 9002, forward facing suite, a couple weeks ago.

We enjoyed it all. Food was good in all the specialty restaurants. Crew all around the ship from butler, to room steward, to all the officers we chatted with walking around the ship.

Ship was clean throughout.

Shows were good.

Did not feel crowded at all, but I imagine it was full or close to being full.

Elevator wait was short.

LOL..too funny. We were on the Epic quite a few years back and I felt the same way. I even took a picture of the 2 ships and thought I would prefer to be on the Sun! The following year we were on the Sun! I have not been on any other line only NCL and have been on quite a few of the ships. This last cruise on the Sun was probably one of the best cruises we have been on. The ports don't seem to matter for me as much as we have only been to the Caribbean and there are only so many ports to visit. For me it's about spending time with my DH just relaxing and of cause being pampered. lol

Just off the Sun on 3/15, also in 8003 known as "The Romance Suite". Lovely room - there a 4 inch square metal pole in the middle of the room but it was not bothersome. Loved the large balcony and walk-in closet area. The shower stall is way in the back and is rather small - but has a real door and no curtains. The star of the bathroom is the large tub. If you check the following, there's a part of it that tours room 8003 on the Sun:

As for the Sun, it's a smaller ship with lots of nooks and crannies to get away from the masses. There's a walkway out front on deck 12 that you can only get to through from the Observation Lounge bar. Great forward views from the lounge as well.

One of the best crews I've encountered - very friendly and attentive.

Daily poolside BBQs were excellent. Plenty of chairs and tables on the deck.

Loved the Great Outdoors. Drinks from the Sports Bar and the bar by the Great Outdoors were the best.

Lost my way many times on the ship - getting from mid-ship to La Cucina requires walking through the mid-ship MDR as a shortcut. Strange elevator layouts - mostly concentrated towards mid-ship forward - there's 6 within very close proximity.

The buffet layout still confuses me, but I didn't do the buffet except when looking for a snack. Had cold soups too - I remember the blueberry one.

I appreciated the fact that they posted menus for both MDR in one place in the main atrium.

Not quite sure what to make of Las Ramblas. Seems a waste of space, and the tapas were passable. Get the spinach pastry.

Loved the Le Bistro location and layout on this ship. La Cucina was also very nice.

There was one day late in the afternoon when the crew officers, concierge, CD, etc. held a big rally in the main atrium - listed as "Sing-Along with the Norwegian Sun Family". Fun to hear them singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Sweet Caroline" and other songs.

A real small ship feel. One of our better cruises.

After my South American cruise on the Sun I knew I wanted to go back on the Sun and book my favorite aft PH 9076. So, that's what drove my next search. I did not care much about "where" just wanted to back on the Sun. That aft PH balcony and bathroom are fantastic!

I did book a third cruise on the Sun but ended up switching. However, I will be back on the Sun one of these days. Last month I was on the Jewel in an aft PH. Nice, but I preferred the Sun's aft PH. Next up is Jade, which will be my first forward suite. Made that choice since we plan to make it a spa trip, (will be my first time to slow it down and purchase spa passes), and it is a lot closer to come and go to the spa.

We've been on both the Epic and the Sun twice - love them both for different reasons. Have no idea where I grabbed this screen print showing the two ships together - such a contrast :)

I think that picture is from Cozumel. We were just there a few weeks ago, and that looks like the pier that was there, along with a larger ship just like the Epic. I do not remember if that was the ship either, but nice pier area where peddle bikes can take you to and from the ship to the street..for a few bucks

My wife and I along with a couple of friends really liked the Sun on our cruise back in February. We had a mini suite and the bathroom was very large. We would have like it better but we had plumbing and refrigerator issues. Love the teak around the pool deck, the ship never felt crowded. Parts of the ship felt like a maze, walking thru events which were going on to get from point A to point B was kind of strange. We did miss the spa, and parts of the ship are in need of some TLC

We sailed in 8003 in February and liked it alot. The one issue (no big thing) is that pole support at the end of the bed.

We loved the forward view and would book that suite again!

The bathroom is adequate and as mentioned there is a large jacuzzi tub (we never used it).

It has a LARGE closet and good storage.

It is quiet but quite a hike several times a day to the aft dining areas. But, I also did not gain any weight!

You do need to close your drapes at night as any light affects vision from the bridge which is two decks up.

You should love it. Our butler was great as well as the concierge.

This is Cozumel. We were on the Sun this past January and docked the same way next to the Epic. What a huge difference between the 2. The Epic is a beautiful ship we did cruise on her a few years ago. I just prefer the smaller more intimate ones.

We have had aft 10265 4 times. Love the wake of the ship. Very serene. This past year we had 1203. Fwd corner. DH prefer fwd. I am now getting used to it. Love the view. It is the most amazing view sitting on your balcony watching where you are going. I have not seen the suite you are getting but I do not think you could go wrong with any one of the suites. I am so hoping for the same type of experience next year for us on the Spirit.

I have also found on the Sun the concierge & butlers are the best. I admit I have had some on other ships that are awesome as well. It is just that when you are on the same ship sometimes (as I have been ) you are fortunate enough to have the same staff members and they already know you.

Enjoy

We were just on the Sun in November and loved her. She never felt crowded for some reason and even though she's older and smaller, we had a great time, great staff, friendly, easy to navigate and glad we sailed her. I have a COMPLETE review with hundreds of pictures if you are interested in seeing them, listed in my signature line. :)

Thanks for the info so far.

Wondering if anyone has details about Sun casino?

Any vp? or mainly slots?

Size-wise, is it similar to other NCL ships? I'm guessing casino much smaller....

Is it overly smokey? etc.

Thanks ahead.

Is VP video poker? I believe they did have some. Lots of slots and table games. Don't remember the casino being "overly" smokey.
