Looking for a beach in Grand Cayman close to the port. Just want to sit on the beach and go in the water for a swim. Going in the beginning of November, sailing on Carnival Paradise. Do not want an all inclusive package. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hop on a bus, ask to be dropped off at a public beach access point any where along 7 mile beach. You'll have to walk through a narrow path to get there from the main road, usually fenced off between the resorts but marked with a blue sign.

Or go walk or ride to Cemetery Beach, where 7 mile beach starts.

When you come out of the port, turn left and start walking. Within a few minutes, a bus will beep at you to see if you want a ride. Flag them down. For $2.50 per person, you can ride all the way up to Public Beach on the far end of Seven Mile Beach. It's a free facility with vending, bathrooms, showers, changing rooms and water sport rentals.

Once there (in less than 10 minutes), we started walking back down the beach until we found somewhere we wanted to throw our towels down and get in the water.

When we were ready to go back, we reversed the process. We went back up to the road and started walking back toward the port. A bus came by within a few minutes and dropped us off at the bus depot in town, just a block from the port.

They drive on the "wrong" side of the road there, so you will be on the correct side when heading out, but will have to cross to catch the bus back.

The buses are mini-buses, not "real" buses.

A few of us hopped a bus and went to Cemetary beach last Oct. Nobody was there, and it was very quiet and peaceful. Water was nice and decent snorkeling.
