Embassy Suites 17th Street Ft. Lauderdale

I have a little snag in my hotel plans.

I had a 2 night reservation for Thurs May 29 & Fri May 30 at Embassy Suites on 17th Street in Ft. Lauderdale. We are not able to leave on Thursday and had to make our flight reservations for Friday, May 30.

I called the hotel and they said they cannot change the reservation to a one night stay because they are booked.

I don't understand this since I already have both nights booked.

The lady said I can call tomorrow and talk to the reservation manager and see if he will override it.

I'm disappointed because I made this reservation 2 months ago and I have read so many wonderful things about this hotel.

Has anyone else run into a situation like this where you can't change the reservation from 2 to 1 night 1 month in advance?

More importantly, can you recommend any other hotels that are priced economically, close proximity to the pier and any other extras that make it extra special. Embassy Suites was 160.55 + tax for Friday night. I know at this hotel they also offered evening cocktails and a nice breakfast.

Thank you

The t&c's of your resi should be on your confirm email

Cancellation policies may vary depending on the rate or dates of your reservation. Please refer to your reservation confirmation to verify your cancellation policy. If you need further assistance, call the hotel directly or contact customer service. Alternatively, you can cancel your reservation online.

I have twice stayed pre-cruise at Hyatt Place North, just around the corner from Embassy Suites. The price is comparable and they provide a complimentary breakfast and complimentary shuttle from the airport. Very nice with huge rooms.

Try Hyatt Place, it's on the opposite corner. We generally pay about $90 plus tax booked on Valutrips.com They have a free airport shuttle, will shuttle you to the pier in the am for $7 pp and have a free continental style breakfast.

Try booking/pricing with "Last Minute Travel Club" (website is different than just Last Minute Travel)...they usually offer free membership...We have gotten our best rates using this online website and no bidding or guessing on location everything is available to see on their website...Best of luck.

On http://www.lastminutetravel.com the Doubletree Gallery in $102 for May 30th. It is listed as 3.5* and is usually the first hotel on the list. They do not have a free breakfast but the price difference makes up for it.

If you are really wanting the Embassy suites it is listed for $155. Could you cancel the reservations you have for 2 nights without paying a penalty and then rebook for the one night?

Last time that happened to us, they wouldn't change it. When you book, it does say that if you make changes it could change the rate. This embassy Suites seems to like making a 2 night minimum.

I concur about lastminute travel, I have used it often for myself and friends and it can really be a great deal. The club is offering free membership right now. That way you can see what the hotels actually are.

Check out the SpringHill Suites thru Last Minute Travel. They have free shuttle from airport and also free shuttle to cruiseport. Complimentary breakfast and bottles of water.

Hi - Thanks for all the replies and information.

I called back Embassy Suites and talked to someone in reservations directly at the hotel and they changed it to 1 night for May 30. And I was surprised that the nightly rate on my confirmation was 141.55 plus tax instead of 160.

I could probably get the Hyatt Place next door for a little cheaper but I have read that Embassy Suites offers a very nice breakfast & they have evening cocktails.

Is this a good rate for Embassy Suites for this time of year?

Thank you!

Just wondering........where is there to eat dinner around there if you do not have a car?

That is a GREAT price for Embassy Suites any time of the year, almost anywhere there is an Embassy Suites.

The breakfast is very good. Lots of choose from. They actually do a "cooked to order" breakfast.:) If you are a wine drinker, you will not be happy with the "free" wine. :(

E/S has a shuttle to the pier, you pick your time (do it when you arrive with the concierge) and can charge it to your room. Don't lose the little green ticket they give you as that tells the driver you have pre-paid.;) It is $8pp and can fill up quickly. Princess also uses this hotel for their cruises, so the breakfast and Managers Reception can be very busy.

You can walk to the Outback which is near Hyatt Place or just walk across the street at the lights and there is a Waxy O'Connors.

Thanks. I was asking about places to eat near Springhill Suites, not Embassy.

I have another embarrassing question. I told the hotel that my 3 kids were under 17 when 2 are older than 17. I think they would have charged more for the 2 kids that are 18 and 20. I am wondering if I should just call back and give the correct ages - it can't be too much of a difference. I am also concerned we might have issues with the breakfast.
