Amber Cove Beaches

We are looking for a beach close to the port. We don't want to do the Carnival excursion. Are there any beaches close by that we can take a taxi to? Thanks in advance[emoji3]

Puerto Plata is the closest beach resort area to Amber Cove. It is a long strip of dark sand bordered by 2 star hotels along the gray Atlantic Ocean.

I stayed there maybe 15 years ago, didn't like it and never went back. I much prefer Punta Cana with its white sugar sand and aqua blue Caribbean water.

I have no idea what a cab might cost you today. Perhaps pre-arrange a day pass at one of the resorts there?

Amber Cove was built without a beach.

Closest beach is at the hotel next door (it is a small beach area)

There is a nice beach in downtown Puerto Plata on the other side of the fort. Requires a taxi trip to get to it ($50 round trip if I recall correctly)

Not sure what cruise you are on (ship or stops) but there are much better places for a beach day (like Grand Turk or St. Thomas)

yes. it probably is about 3/4 mile but in that heat you might not want to walk it....don't know if they sell day passes. We did the excursion there through Carnival. Not bad for the money. The food was awful there though!

Sosua Beach might be a nice option. Haven't been there, but it looks nice.
