River cruise with mobility issues?

I want very much to go on a river cruise but my husband can't walk far or for long. It seems almost all excursions have a lot of walking involved. Does anyone ever hire someone in every port to show them the sights?

I am sure that could be easily arranged. On our most recent trip, there were several people with mobility issues and the tour guides always let the people know if there were going to be steps, long walks, cobbled streets, etc. If they chose, they could wait for the group at a local restaurant or at a meeting place. The cruise company might be able to put you in touch with a local guide if this option did not work for you. They are very accommodating.

have been on many that had people with walkers, crutches, even wheelchairs. But do have to be able to walk on gangplank to ship(not seen any wide enough for the WCs.

Then they have slower walking groups on most.

Also, have option of passing on sightseeing and staying onboard. Many do NOT have elevator to top floor, just stairs. Would get at least French balcony,in that case,so he can see from room.Better with full balcony of course.

On our recent Viking cruise, there were "leisure" walking groups for those tours that included a lot of steps or hilly walking. Those groups did not visit certain parts of the tour that would have been too strenuous or difficult for the mobility challenged. Also, the concierge desk was open daily to arrange private tours for those who wished to visit sites not included on the tours or who simply wished to go off on their own.
