Royal Princess Wine List 10/2013

I took photos on my iPhone of the Royal's wine list & some could have been clearer. Thus I've put the info the best I can into a PDF file attachment & into this thread. There may be some misspellings & it was difficult to determine the order of names for some French wines so they may be in the wrong order. I've proofread the list to ensure there were no mistakes in prices & hopefully didn't overlook any mistakes. ;)

Some wines appear to be different than our previous Princess cruises with one of the lower priced popular wines...Chile's Santa Carolina...replaced by Chile's Puerto Viejo wines. This was the type of wine we got from our travel agent & thought it was as good as Santa Carolina for an inxpensive bottle of wine. I'm certainly not a wine connoisseur but enjoy wine with my meals.

Thanks for posting....the price of the Masseto has really gone up the last few years. I bought a 2006 bottle on the Grand two years ago for $250 when they were selling on-line stateside for over $500 a bottle.

At the Super Tuscan tasting they said the $120 bottle of Tignanello was selling for $100 at Costco but just saw it for $73.

I won't attend another Super Tuscan tasting because 3 of the wines served were mid-$30 wines and although the snacks were tasty not worth $40 to me. The $40 Wine Maker's Dinner was excellent (also mid-$30s wines) & since others have asked about it I'm composing a thread about our experiences. :)

Frank;

Thanks for taking the time to post the wine list......:):):)

There was an Italian red we had in Sabatini's that I absolutely loved. I just wish I could remember the name of it.

There may be other wines at Vines & I didn't see a wine list there when I looked for one but could have just missed it.

We drank our bottle of Brunello di Montalcino we purchased in Tuscany & paid the corkage fee to enjoy it at Sabatini's. :D

Wow. Pretty significant changes to the list and many of my go-to choices are gone. I'm hoping there's a decent champagne available beyond the low end sparklers listed. Something along the lines of veuve cliquot, mums, Moët. Pommery etc.

Where's the Dom?

And the Pinot Grigio choices are, um, lame. Drop Santa Margherita in favour of some Oregon Pinot Grigio? And Rex Goliath?? Seriously, Princess? I don't want to buy the same stuff I can get at the grocery store.

THANKS for providing us with this listing of available wines. I do see a few that I have heard of and would like to try, but not being familiar with many of them I'll have to take their recommendations. There are also several occasions where I would like to enjoy a 'wine by the glass' in Vines prior to dinner, so I'm sure this will be enough to keep me busy for two weeks. ;)

So I went looking for it...someone posted a drink menu from Bellini's and Veuve Clicquot and Dom are both on the list. Veuve is $17 a glass (can't read the bottle price) and can't read any pricing for the Dom. Good to know that they're both available (hopefully).

Now that you've mentioned it that did sound familiar....in the upper right corner of the picture....

Lots of changes.. Many of our favorites no longer listed. Hopefully someone can confirm that the wine list posted is fleet wide..

It would be good to know if this Royal wine list will be going fleetwide. Based on my memory 3 of the 4 Princess Grapevine wines were new so that was good.

We went to a wine tasting last night from an upscale wine store here and had the Tignanello (2010). It was fabulous.

They had about 80 better wines to taste but I decided to focus mostly on Tuscans and Cabs. I also had Sassicaia, Argiano Brunello, Solaia, Guidalberto and Gaja Brunello.

The Tignanello was the best by far, but not the most expensive at all.

They listed it as 74.97 so Princess isn't quite charging double retail.

(The one I liked second best was the least expensive Guidalberto at 39.97 ) ;)

Here's what they served at the Super Tuscan:

Terre More Dell' Ammiraglia ($28)

Lucente della Vite ($34)

Le Volte Dell' Ornellaia ($36)

Tignanello ($120)

Solaia ($230)

They provided a helpful handout with the history of Super Tuscan wine & profiles of each wine served so it was educational also.

Interestingly, the tasting last night (which was free, by the way) listed the retail of the Solaia (2010) as $230 also. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the Tignanello or even the Guidalberto (2011).

I guess if I didn't have access to the tastings we have here, the Tuscan tasting on the ship would be interesting.

I'm jealous...there are no free wine tastings like yours that I know about near us.
