Trying to find out everything you all know about the Sun

Will be on the Sun in 6 days, Vancouver -> Whittier, AK.

We will have 2 staterooms for 3 people total, one balcony and one inside.

A few questions:

1) Is there a "ship information" channel which shows the ship's position and other cool stuff? I know that this channel was missing from the Jewel in December, and I hear it's on about 50% of NCL ships.

2) Can you get to all specialty restaurants from Deck 9 without crossing through the smoky casino?

3) Does iConcierge work on the Sun? (I'm guessing no.)

4) Does the internet still charge by the minute, or by MB?

5) Any shows that are "must see"?

Looking forward to this.

There was a ship information channel on the Sun when we on it last August. It showed where the ship was and what the sea conditions were.

The casino is on deck 7 and the only thing you have to walk through the casino to get to is the shops or the balcony of the stardust lounge. Definitely no issues getting to specialty restaurants from deck 9 while avoiding the casino.

thanks for the lunch buffet secret place, and the breakfast (all the way to back of ship), and info on chocolate buffet and is there any "Baked Alaska" ??:)

We didn't see Baked Alaska on any of the menus, but we also didn't eat in the MDR every night. Towards the end of our cruise (11 day), the chocolate buffet was held in the MDR.

Thanks alot, we ate the baked Alaska for the first time in our life ... lol on the last cruise, we were just wondering if it was on this ship or not ... i googled it and came up once on the Pearl .. in a review someone posted ...

The chocolate buffet is in videos i see on youtube, and was wondering if cruisers of late have had it ... they had a chocolate dessert day i guess you would call it on the Carnival Paradise ... and i thought it was pretty good ...

i always thought baked alaska was fish .... ssssshhhhhhh ... lol

We enjoyed the Sun this past Feb and we are on the Sun for 2015.

Modernos breakfast and lunch are free. Great place for breakfast and not crowded. Looking forward to having lunch there in 2015.

Loved the welcome back on board party at each port stop. Fresh warm towels to freshen up. You can also trade your dirty beach towel for a clean one here. Juice cookies snacks and ice cream were available. Music and friendly staff to greet you after your port day.

Counting the days till we are on the Sun again.

Brenda

We been looking into the Modernos restaurant and here is a nice little video, looks like right off the pool deck or something ... you will see at the end ... but man, looks real, real clean and everything in there is shiny looking ...

Hate to be a party pooper, but the Sun was an awful ship when I was on it last January. Oldest ship in NCL's fleet and it shows.

Everything that we have looked at so far .. pics and videos ... shows a pretty good looking cruiseship , after all , put in service in 2001, had some recent upgrades I see the last few years, and the cost was 400 million .. I dont think you want to scrap it quite yet ...

After all now, we havent been on the ship, I believe alot of people here have, I wont argue at all with you, but, maybe some here will ! :)

Haven't danced in it (and trust me, you'd be thankful for that) but yes, I've seen it. On the Epic it was at the rear of the ship (Spice H2O). On the Sun, it could be at the aft past the buffet or center of the ship around the pool area (most likely center by the pool). Everyone tried to wear as much white as possible, a lot of the entertainment staff is out there, the music pounds in your head. Like an outdoor nightclub.

I haven't been on the Sun since 2003, and I am getting excited to sail her again just reading this thread.

There are probably a lot of people out there who won't like her because of her age, but I'm sure there are even more of us who love her for just those same reasons. This is the first ship I ever sailed, and when I went on my second cruise, I immediately noticed that the stateroom (both balconies in about the same location on the ship) was smaller than the one on the Sun.

I'm sure I'll be sailing her more than the one cruise I currently have booked; just love the layout of this ship. The main aft dining room seemed different to me than on the newer ships, too. I just have this memory of being at a table centrally located and impressed how I could look to the left, right and in front of me and see out windows all three directions. The Star, Pearl, and Jewel have larger areas along the sides of the dining rooms that are closed in, without windows, and it just is a different feeling.

That and the Observation Lounge in the front of the ship is different than the newer ships. The Sun has more windows directly out the front of the ship, making it a wonderful place to sit, sip a drink, and chill during sea days.

Ahhhhhhhhhh Norwegian, take me away!!!

P.S. As I stated on our roll call, I have never seen Baked Alaska on any of the menus on NCL, sorry.

The White Hot Party was on the pool deck. Lots of fun for young and the young at heart. The Sun crew know how to throw a party. Here is a picture from our Sun 2014 cruise. aqy2u3e3.jpg

Since 9/11 no tours of engine room. Whether or not the Behind the Scenes tour includes the Bridge is up to the captain.

Sure would have liked seeing all that though, me having worked for chrysler over 30 years, would have liked seeing the engine room for sure, i looked up one time the fuel mileage for a cruise ship and it was something like 1 gallon of diesel for 100 feet !!! our front porch is 150 feet ....
