Info Requested: MSC Experience

Hi LGBT Cruise Critic Fam,

I was wondering if people on here who have sailed MSC could enlighten me on the experience on the ship, with a primary focus on LGBT. I'm considering a cruise on the Seaside next year. My questions:

1. How did MSC treat you if you were solo LGBT?

2. Does MSC hold or set aside a spot on the ship for the Friends of Dorothy / LGBT gatherings? If yes, is it posted in the daily or do you hunt for it?

3. Regardless of LGBT, how was your experience on MSC (include what ship you sailed on and how long ago)?

4. If you went solo, did MSC do anything to help you meet others (non-LGBT singles gathering)?

Thanks in advance for your help and feedback. MSC had a shaky start when she first started in the North American market. I'm just wondering if it has improved and how they are towards our community.

Thanks again! :)

Seems like there were some special group meets. I do know their customer service line is great and the folks are friendly there. Let's see..... the food. The best dining room food was the seafood. The non-meat items, well, rock hard peas and overly salty pasta or pasta with an icky brown gravy, raw tempeh. Get the seafood. The steaks were thin and grisly too. No grits, and the semolina is no substitute. But I liked the buffet ok. We didn't do specialty restaurants. The pizza on the buffet is an experience, really good and authentic. The gelato is amazing, but not free. The drink coupon book is shareable. If you get a drink package, everyone in the cabin has to get the same one. The ship is beautiful. I was on Divina. The hand sanitizer machines were not working. The shows were like different chapters of the same book. I liked them. The casino was non-smoking and non-popular. They followed me around, clapping if I had a win. Hated that! The pools were beautiful, especially Infinity. It's European and multicultural and English is a minority language. Most Europeans are pretty open, I think. You should be ok. Thinking about the Seaside for 2020. Our only problem was the unwanted advances of a young male staffer towards my newly widowed older friend I took with me. He was actually after her and we had to do some dodging. We think he was either reallllyyyy in need or wanted a green card.

MSC Divina on a RSVP charter in 2014. The ship was great, the service less so. As mentioned before: stick with seafood and pasta, the rest of the food wasn't that great. Since it was a gay cruise they had no option but accommodate us. ;) MSC has not been used as a charter by RSVP since then.

Thanks guys for the feedback!

Divina has had some charters due to her cheaper price for doing so compared to other options in the Miami market. Holy Ship used to use her as well but recently has switched (this year and next) for Norwegian's Epic. HS folks don't eat usually so I'm sure the food didn't matter much to them.

I'll stick to the seafood. Thanks for the tip there!

I'll keep my eyes on the Seaside pricing and make the leap if it's low enough. "Get what you pay for..." comes to mind.

Hi Jake,

I did my third MSC cruise this past February on the Divina.

There was a LGBT gathering on the ship, I think the first sea day. Unfortunately I was the only passenger to attend. I had a nice conversation with a gay member of the ship's entertainment staff. There was only one gathering that week. The stars member was very nice and would go out of his way to say hello throughout the week. There may have been a single's gathering, but I did not attend.

I felt very comfortable cruising as a solo throughout the week.

One thing to note, wait staff and bar staff do not fawn over passengers the way they do on US cruise ships. As long as you treat staff with the same respect you would like, you will be treated with the utmost respect.

The food in the main dining room was just OK. There was nothing serve which was horrible, but nothing had me oohing or ahhing. I did eat in once in Eataly and once in the Galaxy restaurant and I must say that both of these dinners were superb.

Overall, I had a good experience on the Divina, and I'm planning on another MSC cruise in the future.
