Middleham and Trafalgar Falls Question

My wife and I are planning a tour that will visit these Falls. We were wondering if a good pair of running shoes or water shoes would be good enough . Are hiking shoes or hiking sandals really necessary?

Thanks

We've done both, with Levi of Buumping Tours. For Middleham I'd seriously recommend the hiking sandals. There are several small rivers to cross (not deep or wide, very wadable, and your feet will get wet. You're in the rain forest, and it can be very muddy (walking through the streams is an easy way to wash yourself off). Athletic shoes work out for atrafalgar, but if you've got the hiking sandals, you may as well go ahead and wear them.

Another plus is when you get back to your cabin, you toss the hiking sandals into the shower, wash them off and they're dry, clean and ready to wear the next day.
