How to organise a day visit to the ship?

I am a Venetian Society and am hoping to visit the Silver Spirit when she docks in Montevideo in February, ideally for lunch.

I got in touch with Silversea via their website last week but am yet to receive a response of any kind.

For those of you have previously enjoyed this Venetian Society perk, can you let me know how you went about it? Were you able to stay for lunch? Did SS charge you for the privilege?

Many thanks as ever in anticipation of your help,

Scott1sh (now living in Uruguay!)

I would try telephoning their local agent, or the Silversea Office for your region. We were charged a nominal amount and welcomed for a meal. ID will be needed in advance, usually a photocopy of your Passport.

Yes, I've visited a few times to the Silver Wind and Silver Cloud when they've been berthed at London Bridge.

Visitations with lunch are possible but dependent obviously on the time the ship is there. I've only ever visited when the ships are in port at the start / end of a cruise, so not sure if the same applies when its in port mid cruise. I expect its no different though and not a problem.

You can get on board for a quick tour for 45 minutes or so and leave having seen the ship and escorted the whole time. Alternatively, you can pay $60 for Lunch and (I think) $100 for dinner, which represents excellent value for a nice meal, with drinks available before during and after if you wanted. Generally, you get about 4 or 5 hours and are treated the same as a cruise guest. Even better value when you look at it that way. You can only have your meal in the MDR though (though I guess the pool bar is an option if thats what you wanted.) We wanted to use La Terrazza but not allowed. Generally though you are un-escorted the whole time and free to roam wherever you want.

The email address Ive used is guestrelationsuk@silversea.com which I did assume it would be the same from any location until I clocked the uk part. Just give them a call on the number youd use to book a cruise to get the address that applicable - or chase if youve waited long enough.

They did take a long time to respond. Actually funnily enough, I got another email a couple of hours ago confirming some details. (Confirming they haven't finalise Silver Muse lunch visit details that is!)

Have fun

I had a couple of friends visit with us in the Spirit last May when in Málaga port. They preferred to treat us to a succulent paella at a well known restaurant, but visited with us after lunch and we gave them a tour of the ship. In order to do this, we submitted petition forms more than 45 days in advance. Copies of their identity documents (passports) were needed to enter the ship. Our TA coordinated with Silversea to forward us the required forms. We had a lovely time and our friends are prospective customers.

In our experience if a passenger on board the ship makes the request for you, there is no charge. If you make the request for yourself, you might have to pay for the meal.

Good luck with your visit.

I was going to say, that did sound like that was the case. Great hosting.

Update: I got a very quick reply from Guest Relations UK asking me to complete an excel spreadsheet which they attached to their email. I suspect that the spreadsheet is for internal use only but, hey ho, I will fill it out as requested.

As for costs, they have advised that it will be £60pp for lunch and £100pp for dinner. I must admit I'm a little surprised to see they are quoting costs in GBP and not in USD as per everything else on board. However, given the post-Brexit cable rate, I don't stand to lose too much whether I am charged £60 or $60!

Was the charge mentioned on the spreadsheet or in the email? I suspect Som has made an error as you pay on board the ship when you arrive and it is in $US - It may well be they have changed it though since my last visit in August last year.

Yes the exchange rate is a pain... just have another cocktail to make up for it. :D

Update: I received an email from Silversea in London confirming my visit to the Silver Wind in Montevideo on 21 February, confirming cost for lunch is $60pp.

I wrote back querying the ship as I thought it was Silver Spirit due to dock on that day, and indeed it is.

A new invitation was issued accordingly and I am looking forward to my visit.

I know I'm a stickler, but it was disappointing that both invitations and emails had quite obvious spelling mistakes and/or typos, especially given that I am communicating with the London office. [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

Update: had a wonderful day on the Spirit in Montevideo yesterday.

We arrived just before midday and was told we could stay onboard until 9pm.

We enjoyed lunch in the restaurant (good, not excellent), drinks and a snooze by the pool, a cup of afternoon tea in La Terrazza followed by a farewell drink in the bar before leaving around 7pm.

We also spent some time with cruise consultant as I wanted to find out more about Silver Cloud's conversion and ice rating. Antarctica is on my bucket list and if I had put down a deposit yesterday, I would have received the 5% onboard discount. Sadly we are not quite ready to put our money where our mouth is, and weren't able to leave a floating deposit.

All in all it was a great day, and of course the hardest part was disembarking!

Bit too much to drink? lol

It's a splended experience eh. That's a pretty long visit. We only got 4 hours each time in London.
