Question Normandy beaches.

We would lke to visit the Normandy beaches and perhaps the small towns that were significant with the D-day Allied landings. Can this be done from England? Though I have never seen it advertised, it seems like there would be ferry day trips across the channel for tourists. I don't want to stay in France, but would like to visit the beaches. Any info. or suggestions would be appreciated.
