Panama Line?

Recommended Posts

It's defunct now but had an illustrious history sailing from NYC to Cristobal, Panama, stopping at Havana (back in the pre-Castro naughty days), then from New Orleans to Cristobal stopping at Port-au-Prince.

My mother, age 27 and affianced, sailed on the SS Ancon in 1940 to marry my father in Panama.

Your subject line intrigued me... I had this pic I lifted from some of my father's slides. He took it in the mid 50s when two of the Panama Line sister ships were meeting in Port-Au-Prince. Don't remember which one of the ships he was on at the time of the photo... either the Ancon or Cristobal.

I sailed on the Panama Line every summer between Cristobal and NYC and we always stopped in Port-Au-Prince.The last two years (62&63) we sailed to New Orleans and it was a straight shot with no stop in Haiti.Still have many fond memories of those trips.
