londoncruiser87 Posted July 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) I will be going on a P&O cruise to Norway soon and I have some questions about how the cruise sponsored excursions work. 1. Can you book multiple excursions for one day, say two? 2. Do all excursions leave in the morning? (if so, I guess the answer to #1 would no) 3. Do all excursions depart from the same spot? Basically I want to know, can you go on an excursion in the morning and then another one in the afternoon, and if you can, do you have to come back to the ship or some excursion departing spot for the second one? dancinman66 Posted July 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 21, 2014 Excursions leave at different times depending on operator Read the details on the excursions and it will let you know how long each is and yes you can usually fit two half day trips in Best to book one and verify details if the other onboard if unsure of start and leave times Or book both prepared to cancel one Sent from my iPhone using Forums

No, excursions don't always leave just in the morning. Occasionally this is true in a few ports, but not generally all ports. As to leaving from the same spot. Again, generally, but not in every case, they leave from the same spot. But occasionally they may leave from different spots, depending on the needs of the excursion. For example, on a recent cruise, while most people were getting off on the dock for their excursions, ours departed directly onto a sailing vessel off the other (non-dock) side of the ship. So yes, it is possible, you may be able to book two excursions in one port, in one day. Edited July 21, 2014 by CruiserBruce
paul929207 Posted July 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2014 The morning tours are usually staggered so you don't have a huge number of passengers getting off at the same time.
Rare Scrapnana Posted July 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2014 Welcome to Cruise Critic! On my last cruise the morning excursions usually met in one of the public rooms and everyone on a certain tour left the ship together. Most of the afternoon excursions met on the dock or in the terminal. Enjoy your cruise!
catergirl Posted July 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 21, 2014 if you are booking ships tours, when the time comes that the excursion bookings open up, say 90 days before, then they usually have a time to start, how long the tour is, if lunch is included, if strenuous etc. then when you get the tickets in your stateroom once onboard, it will say where and what time to meet for the tour, which if it is morning is usually in a room or theatre on the ship and then you are escorted out as a group to the bus or whatever. if you have an afternoon one booked as well, it will again let you know on the ticket where and when to meet, which is usually off the ship. if you cant do both because of times, usually when you try to book you cant... dsrdsrdsr Posted July 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 21, 2014 1. Yes, subject to suitable timings. 2. No. As a slight guide, bigger ships are perhaps more likely to have afternoon tours because they have more passengers to cater for. 3. More or less. If not the exact spot, it will be within easy walking distance from the gangway. If you don't have a lot of time between excursions - say half an hour - and you're running late on the first one, the ship has a rep on board each excursion who will at least be able to phone back and let them know you're late. Then if they can't wait for you, you should at least get your money back.
jocap Posted July 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2014 With P&O, the normal meeting place is off the ship, but quite close to it. Check the ports of call page for Norwegian tours, as there are some excursions run by the town or village itself, such as HOHO buses, town trains, cycling tours etc.
