Driving time/route Santa Cruz to SF pier

We will be staying nite before cruise, in Santa Cruz. Our ship disembarks San Fran at 4 PM and we hope to get to pier around 1-2 PM

How much time should we allow if we wanted to drive up Route 1 (on a Sunday morning) and make a brief stop at Ano Nuevo?

Is the scenery worth continuing driving from Ano Nuevo thru Half Moon Bay etc? Or would it be better to cut over (rt 84?) to main highway at this point (Hwy 280)?

Thanks!

Tina

I drive from Capitola (the city just south of Santa Cruz) to San Francisco 1 day each week. It takes me approx. 1 hr 45" (non rush hour) to go by way of hwy 17 to Hwy 85 to 280, add another 30+" to take the coast road. As long as you're going to take the coast road to Half Moon Bay, you might as well continue all the way up. Remember that you will encounter a lot of weekend surfer/beach traffic at various points, so leave yourself plenty of time (perhaps 3.5--even 4 hr if you're planning on stopping). Enjoy! Kathy
