Excursion Help - see the Pitons....

We are on the Carnival Valor, at port in St. Lucia on March 5th.

It seems as though the ship-sponsored options for seeing the Pitons all involve 5 or 6 hours on a bus. While we might like to see some of the other sites, I don't know if we want to spend the entire day on a bus.

What are the options for seeing the Pitons? Is the best option a boat ride and time at the beach? Are there good recommendations for tour operators?

I would recommend Spencer Ambrose Tours. He offers a Land, Sea & Beach tour which takes you down to the Pitons by boat and returns you to the cruise terminal by boat, so there is no long ride on the winding roads by van to get to Soufriere and back again. The tour includes a coastal sightseeing tour as well as land sites such as a visit to Sulphur Springs (volcano or mud baths) and the Toraille waterfall with 2 hours at Jalousie Beach. Lunch, snacks and beverages are included in the price of the tour.

My wife and I used Stannis Taxi Service for our St. Lucia excursion earlier this month and were very satisfied with it. He has good reviews on this board.

We did this tour in December, or maybe it was called Land and Sea. It was great; saw a lot without having hours on the road.

Spencer Ambrose also has a "Jalousie Beach Break" tour. We did that one on our Valor cruise in May 2013 and really enjoyed it. Similar excursion through Carnival but beach time was only about an hour and a half. With Spencer, we had about five hours of beach time, exactly what we wanted because it allowed enough time to snorkel, walking the beach and getting pictures, and just kicking back and enjoying the beach without feeling rushed. The scenery is beautiful!!! Lunch (very good) and unlimited drinks (coke, diet coke, water, rum punch and Piton Beer) are provided. Transportation to and from the ship is by speedboat. To get there it was about 30 - 45 minutes with a couple of stops for photo ops, one being views of the Pitons when they both come into view. For the trip back, it took a little longer that is when we got "Sea Tour" portion. Several stops at interesting sites with explanation and also some great photo opportunities. We really enjoyed it and it was probably one of our best tour experiences while on a cruise.
