Santa Marta - Any Info is Appreciated

We'll be stopping in Santa Marta in October, and I'm finding very little information about this port. I'm wondering if it's possible to do something on our own rather than a ship tour.

On the NCL port page it says: "Walking is easy with the Town Center just a half-mile away. Wander the historic district or schedule an excursion." Is it possible to walk into town and just look around on our own?

I also haven't found private tours, anyone have any info about any tour operators?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!
