Save $$ by Buying Cruise Tickets on Sail Date of Cruise?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Has anyone tried buying tickets for a cruise on the sail date to see if they could get a better deal? Obviously the risk of doing that is that you don't get to sail, but if you could handle the risk, just wondering if there are better deals to be had that way.

It is easy to buy on the last day but you must deal through a Travel Agent or with the cruise line over the phone. It is all but impossible to 'walk-up' and book a cabin.

In recent years I have never heard of any 'real deals' from this method of sailing. Indeed, the cruise lines, if there are vacancies, begin several days before sailing to fill cabins with travel industry personnel, family of crew and others who qualify for deeply discounted fares.

We have, on occasion, been offered thru our TA, really great rates on the 'next sailing' of a ship that we are already on. Sadly we have never been able to take advantage of these.
