Dubai cruise Passports retained?

Has anyone done a Dubai cruise?
Does the ship retain your passport for the duration of the cruise?
If so howand when did you get them back and how long did that take?

We did a far east cruise some time ago and they retained our passports which I was not happy about. It took us 3 hours queuing on the last day to collect them.
