Celebrity Solstice - live sports games?

Recommended Posts

Not really, no.

They do sometimes run some sports on tvs around the casino bar, but it's not their emphasis.

You can also get some sports channels on in-room tv, depending on ship location, but I doubt they'd have NRL.

They'll have some NRL when they are in range to get free to air while sailing from Aus but they're not in Aus for most of the NRL season, She leaves in a couple of weeks and returns after the Grand final.

It also depends on how much the transmitting channel wants in fees ....

I believe some of the charges are horrendous ...

True but I know most cruises I've been on around Aus they've had the cricket on 9 for much of the time, so I assume they'll have the NRL, it seemed like just the standard 9 while in range.

I've only don one cruise in Aus during the League season but that was on a ship [or at a time] when all TV on board was just repeats of taped stuff.

I guess it depends where you are sailing. We got off the Solstice on Saturday after doing the top end cruise from Perth to Sydney. The only place that may have it is at the Casino bar. We were predominantly in Australian waters so the cricket world cup was on and I think I saw NRL on as well although as an AFL follower I didn't take too much notice. There was also NBA, ice hockey etc. The in room entertainment has ESPN so the cricket was there too but no AFL or ARL.

Australian TV was noticeably absent on the recent Solstice cruise. Whilst the Solstice was in NZ the NZ free to air channels were available on board but once NZ was out of range only the US and UK channels were available. World cup cricket was on ESPN but if one is looking for NRL then forget it. All channels seen in the casino are also available in staterooms.

We are watching the World Cup Cricket now on ESPN in our cabin (India v Bangladesh) - I will have a look around tomorrow to see if the League is on but will be watching the rugby on the IPad - with binoculars on:)

I will let you know.

Cheers

Di

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi there, just back from Solstice and wanted to come back and post some info based on our experience.

We found most of the sport played in cabin was US sport as the channels were mainly US.

As the cricket World Cup finals were played, these we played live at venues across the ship on big screens as well as played in cabin.

No luck with NRL games however the daily Australian Newspaper which could be collected from guest relations had the games results which was great.

Keep an eye out for a review on Aus / NZ forum hopefully later this week!
