Volcano eruption in Chile near Puerto Montt

Just read about this volcano near Puerto Montt which ahs just erupted after being dormant for decades.

We watched it on the news this morning. That`s not going to do the air quality any good. Glad we`re not living in the area.

We were in Puerto Montt last month, and actually drove along a road which skirts the base of the volcano which is currently erupting. We recognize some of the buildings in Puerto Montt in the CNN coverage.

Same here NA (well not the CNN bit!). I've also seen photos taken from across Lake Llanhiquhe (sp?) from Puerto Varas and we stood right there only 6 weeks ago.

I just read this morning that most flights into and out of Buenos Aires have been cancelled due to volcanic ash in the air from the Chilean eruption. If you are planning to fly home, you might want to check with your airline.

Bariloche, not Buenos Aires which is far away from the volcano.

That is inaccurate. It was Buenos Aires as well as Bariloche.

Ezeiza Airport is the country's primary international airport, and is located in BA. The closing was temporary and is probably reopened by now. Winds carried ash as far as Brazil.
