Carnival Dream Balcony Room Opinions Wanted

We're thinking about booking a cruise on the Dream out of New Orleans. We're considering a balcony room on Deck 7 or 8 in the middle of the ship. Looking for opinions on which would be better - a room near the elevators for convenience, or a room further down the hall for less foot traffic. Thanks!

I booked a cove balcony on deck 2 right off the elevator. I chose deck 2 so that I could see right out to the ocean, and because the cove balcony has a little more privacy. I chose near the elevator because it's fast easy and convenient.

I had cabin 8247 on deck 8 a few weeks back. It is a bit forward of midship, but it was a great cabin. No noise other than the little bit from the hallway and the connecting rooms when people would get loud.

I will go with near the elevators and mid ship any chance given. The elevators are in their own little lobby area so there is no noise and the foot traffic never bothered us. Unless you have a room all the way aft or forward then you will have people walking past your room from time to time, only the ones screaming will be heard. The best room I had was a cove balcony that was right by the elevators near the atrium. One quick jog up the stairs and we were on deck 3 for dinner. 2 more using the atrium stairs and I was at the casino entrance. Loved it.

My vote is with forward or aft on deck 8. The Dream class ships promenade deck (deck 5) juts our from the ship if you book deck 7 mid when you look down all you will see is people on deck 5 including the hot tubs. I have stayed in coves. I like them just be sure you are forward as some of them are under the galley. Reports vary from I didn't hear a thing to we couldn't sleep at night. I think it depends where under the galley as to the noise.

Lido is what, 10, on the Dream? That is really high up to enjoy the water or the ground views from one's balcony. We were on 11 once and I felt like I was looking down from a skyscraper. As far as near elevators, or not, mid is great- the Dream is a LONG ship. Avoid being too forward or too aft, you will be walking back and forth a lot.

I go in 2 weeks and booked 8350, midship near elevators. However I am nervous because smoking is permitted on port side on Deck 5 and some have reported smoke smell travelling up :( Hoping is not an issue!

That's a really good point. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

I really like the coves. I have had balconies way up high, in the middle, and down low with the cove. The cove was easily my favorite. I wouldn't like looking down on the deck 5 lanai. Some people aren't bothered by it, and some people even like it. But I wouldn't like it, and that seems to be a more common sentiment. Only the coves won't have this. They are the only balconies to see the water when looking down. Seeing the water rush by so fast really makes you feel like you're at sea. Plus, you might even see some fish or dolphins. You just don't want a cove that's below the galley/kitchen. Go forward of the midship elevators, ideally below the dining room. Below the dining room is the best place on the ship, since it's empty all night long. It's even quiet when it's being used.

Other than the cove, my next choice would be deck 8 in the forward or aft, as was previously suggested, since the lanai is much skinnier there, & it doesn't get much use. The spa balcony is also a good option, with the added benefit of access to the Cloud 9 Spa facilities. Even if you're not a spa person, the fancy hot tub & fancy saunas are really nice.

In regards to proximity from elevators, I have had experience with people being very noisy coming off the elevators at night. That's why I prefer being halfway between elevators. Or if I'm forward or aft, being about halfway up or back. It's not a very long walk to the elevators from those spots.

I have sailed on Dream many times when it was in Pt Canaveral. Each time we got cabin 8346 or 8347. They are midship right near the elevators. Only one time did we hear a lot of noise and that was when there were a lot of party people on our floor. From their kids screaming to their friends, and the parents coming back from a bar at 3 in the morning and singing in the hallways, it made sleeping difficult.

Having said that about the party people, I realize they could be on any deck or anywhere on the ship. Our last cruise on Dream was last week and we were in 8266 which was near the front elevators. I do prefer being midship as it is a long walk from the front of the ship to the aft dining room.

I also wouldn't stay on deck 7 as I like being able to sit out on the balcony and see the sea, not the lanai deck. Deck 6 and possibly deck 7 balconies are visible from the lanai deck, so there is no real privacy. I don't do anything on the balcony that shouldn't/couldn't be seen, but I am more comfortable with the privacy.

Another thing is that there is a BBQ on sea days and it is very very smokey. On deck 8 there is no smoke from it. I don't know if deck 6 or7 get the smoke.

We are going on Dream again in October for a Journeys cruise and once again we will be midship, deck 8. For me, it's the perfect location.

2372 & 2399 are below the galley/kitchen, so those are very risky. There could be loud noises from above at any and all hours. 2334 & 2361 are right at the edge of the galley & the dining room. Those are the first rooms under the dining room, but it might be possible to have noise from workers going in & out of the dining room. I don't think that would be too big of an issue, but I'm not sure. 2280 looks to be below an extension of the dining room, so that would be complete silence all night long. It's also nearly silent from above when the dining room is being used, because the dining room is carpeted & people aren't stomping around in it. And to clear up a popular misconception, there is no cooking or cleaning being done in the dining room. That's done in the galley.

More Great Advice! Thanks Katie!

I think RB's post was 'tongue in cheek' about smoke from smokers drifting that far up, especially while the ship is in motion. :)
