Default My Time Dining Seating Question

I experienced the same situation as another cruise reviewer wrote - see below....

Do you have any choice besides the 3rd level on My Time Dining Program??

We were on the LOS and seated on 3rd level. We also couldn't see the waiter show and in fact, felt like we missed the "beautiful dining room experience".

Thank you.
Barbara

The only draw back is that you don't get to see the waiters dance and put on a show the few times a week that they do, they only dance in the regular dinning room on the deck below.

For me that's a good thing.

I've been doing my time dining for all my RCL cruises except for one. They are always the top deck and you are correct you will not be able to see the singing and dancing. I think you might be able to be sit near the railing so you can look down to see. Twirl those nappies!

We tried MTD for the first time on the Enchantment. MTD was held in the Balcony. The first night we were seated with 6 other people. 4 were eating their dessert and the other 2 had finished their appetizer. With 30 minutes we were sitting at an table for 8 with 6 empty but dirty places. Next night I specifically asked not to be seated with someone eating dessert so they sat us with people eating their main course. Needless to say..we again were left with an empty table with "dirty" places. Fortunately we met another couple that were also on MTD and we sat with them for the last few nights of the cruise. The staff were more interested in seating you with the same waiter than seating you with other people that just arrived. Not sure what we are going to do on our next cruise.

Is this typically of how RCI handles MTD?

No it's not based on my experience. I've never been sat at a table with people already eating. This goes for breakfast and lunch in the dining room as well as MTD. That's shocking to me!

I have NEVER EVER been seated with other folks -- why did you not ask for a table for 2 (or the amount) of people in your party???????

I think we'll go back to regular time dining on RC.....I really felt left out of things sitting on 3rd level table for 4 with no waiter show and ambiance of lower dining rooms...I'm sure many think the waiter show may be hokey, but I still like seeing the waiters from various countries parading around.

On the second night I had asked to be seated somewhere else to get a better view of the dining room, but they just moved us to a table for 2, not near the railing...I decided to just sit and enjoy dinner instead of complaining.

My understanding is that with MTD you can ask to sit at tables of 2, 4 or 6+....I can't imagine being seated at a table where people are well into their dinner though as another poster on this thread wrote....awful.

FYI - Regular dining does not insure that you will be seated on the main level or in an area that the show will be visiable. On my Navigator 12/15/12 cruise MTD dining only used half of tDeck 5 and the other half was Traditional dining . Though I don't care about the show it could not be viewed.

Default MTD Dinning

I have only experienced RCI MTD in 2000 on the Radiance in Alaska. My main complaint was how close the tables were to each other. The waiters barely had room to slide between the tables. This is an area where Norwegian freestyle is superior. We were on POA in early December and this worked well. Just show up when you wanted and we were instantly given a table for two. Unfortunately their MDR food was not very good so they tried to force you towards extra fee venues.

A MEN to that! heheh

no MTD is a completely separate section of the Dining room, usually on the upper level( and possibly on only one side of said level)

veddy weird. I just got off EN Saturday. even during Breakfast and Lunch in the MDR they usually fill a table completely before serving, although a couple of times we got to the table and the others had already hit the breakfast bar.

we WANTED the same wait staff, so that was no biggie. we did however indicate on the website we wanted to sit at a larger table, ended up with a 2 top. but all the larger tables around us were clearly family groups.

Default I have always used MTD

I should do a rant, on MTD service on our last cruise, but I finally gave up on my issue, so be it. In MTD you always will lose some of the, if you want to call it, pleasures in the MDR experience unless you do time you dinner for it those experiences, which are based on main seating times. As far as seating, I have always been seated with the same waiter, on our last cruise, it was where ever seating.
I do believe that our problem, was, that they had oversold MTD, and everyone wanted to eat at virtually the same time. Even with reservations for a certain time, seating was where ever. So we altered our times to eat and it did not matter, seating was where ever.

We did MyTime Dining on our honeymoon, showed up whenever we wanted, and were always seated promptly. For our next cruise in February we are going with 3 other couples and we have all opted for the MyTime Dining. Does anyone have experience using this option for a larger group? Will we be seated together if we have linked reservations and all show up together or should we make reservations this time around? We really enjoyed this option but everyone else in our group has done traditional dining in the past and I don't want them to be disappointed....

That is awful, I have never had that happen during lunch or dinner. On our LOS leaving Saturday, originally it was early dining time or MTD. We chose MTD and was wait listed for the late dining which we thankfully were able to get. While I love how NCL handles Freestyle (although like a previous poster said, they do push you to the charge places, as the MDR isn't that good on NCL) I really don't like the idea of MTD when it's not for everyone, I feel like there is no way they can handle it in a way that runs totally smoothly.
