After extensive tasting by a panel of renowned Margarita drinkers (my mom, son, and, me), our results were as follows:

Note: Common ingredients were Hornitos blue agave tequila and a mixture of fresh limes and key limes

I. Cadillac Margarita Num 1:

1 1/2 ounces premium tequila

1 ounce Grand Marnier orange liqueur

3/4 ounce lime juice

Salt for rimming

Score: 7 out of 10

Comments: Good, but a little too sour. Grand Marnier gave it a nice velvety texture

II. Cadillac Margarita Num 2:

1 ½ oz gold tequila

½ oz cointreau

½ oz Grand Marnier

1 oz lime juice

Bar salt

Lime squeeze (garnish)

Score 7.5 out of 10

Comments: Too much going on. Flavors seemed flat and not many layers although the finish was good.

III. Tommy's Margarita (from Tommy's Mexican Bar in SFO)

1 tablespoon light agave nectar

1/4 cup blue agave tequila

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

Lime wedge

Score 9.5 out of 10

<font color="Red">Comment: By the time we tasted this sample, we were already a little buzzed so the results may be tainted.

This is the best Margarita I've found. Tommy thins the agave nectar with 1T of water prior to mixing with other ingredients.

In all fairness to the above Cadillac Margaritas, we came up with the following hybrid recipe:

IV. Tommy's/Cadillac Margarita

1 tablespoon light agave nectar

1/4 cup blue agave tequila

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

Lime wedge

1 oz Grand Marnier

Preparation

1. Whisk together agave nectar and 1 tbsp. water in a small bowl.

2. Pour thinned nectar, tequila, and lime juice, and 1/2 oz Grand Marnier in a shaker. Add ice and shake until blended.

3. Strain into a glass or pour over ice and garnish with a lime wedge.

4. Float remaining Grand Marnier on top of your drink

Score: 9.8 out of 10

More testing to follow this afternoon with an additional judge from Canada.
