Eagle Beach

Have been to Aruba many times staying in Palm Beach area. Thinking of staying in a hotel on Eagle Beach. Are there any restaurants to dine in along that section or do we transportation to dine? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

There are lots of good restaurants in Eagle Beach. Our favorites are Chalet Suisse and Ricardos. Some other great ones are Passions, Screaming Eagle, Carte Blanche, Ike's Bistro, Matthew's, Elliottis, Carambola, Tulip, French Steak House, just to name a few. We like to walk so we walk to all of these. Depending where you stay on Eagle Beach, you can walk, drive, take a taxi or bus to any or them.

This will be my first time to Aruba. We dock at 12:00 pm. We are staying there until 10:00 pm. From the forum, I think my family will go to Eagle Beach. Will that be enough time for spending some time at the beach and shopping?? My teenage daughters want to make sure they can get their souvenirs and hit the beach! :) Are there water activities at Eagle Beach and I assume chair rentals.

If you want to shop and have water activities, along with beach time, your best bet would be Palm Beach. Eagle Beach has jet ski vendors, but the other water sports are at Palm Beach. Eagle Beach doesn't have any shopping close by. The shops are on Palm Beach or downtown. Palm Beach also has more vendors with chairs and umbrellas, also bars and restaurants, and most importantly, bathrooms.

Have you spent a land vacation at any of the hotels on Eagle Beach?

I spend several weeks on Eagle Beach every Feb. We have stayed in four different hotels on Eagle Beach, but for the last 6 years we have stayed at the same one. This year, we spent two weeks on Eagle Beach and one week downtown.

Can you recommend a hotel on Eagle Beach ?

There are a lot of nice hotels on Eagle Beach. Bucuti is rated one of the best in the Caribbean, but is pricey. Manchebo is right next door to Bucuti, and is nice and less expensive. We've stayed there four times. Amsterdam Manor is very nice. Our favorite way to stay in Aruba is to rent a timeshare. We've done this for years. It is a lot cheaper and we have a condo instead of just a room. Our favorite, where we've been staying for the last six years, is Costa Linda. You can read reviews on Tripadvisor. To rent a timeshare, go to redweek.com. Owners list their timeshares there and you can get some great deals. You can also look on Costa Linda's website. They have a page where owners list their weeks for rent. There are other really nice timeshares, Casa Del Mar, La Cabana, Aruba Beach Club. I don't recommend an all inclusive because there are so many great restaurants on the island, too many to chose from, but some people prefer an all inclusive. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

We have stayed at the Occidental 3 times. Didn't care for the food. We are not big drinkers, a glass of wine with dinner is fine. We didnt like having to get up at 6 to reserve a cabana by the ocean. The beach was beautiful in that particlar section tho. Did not care for the beach in front of the Riu and heard people saying the had to get up at 5:30 to get a spot by the beach. We have visited Aruba many times be cruising. In November we decided to try the Renaissance for the day. We weren't that impressed with their beach and at that time they were rebuilding the restaurant that had burned down. We were thinking of staying on Eagle Beach. I'm glad to know that there are different restaurants along that stretch of beach to enjoy dinner.

We went to a timeshare presentation at Occidental years ago. Too crowded fo us. If you decide on Bucuti or Manchebo, I can think of 12 restaurants within a five minute walk ,off of the top of my head. The beach there is gorgeous.

We are thinking of Manchebo but still undecided. Bucuti sounds great but the price which includes breakfast is pricey. With the airfare from New York and eating out for 11 days would be $9,000. We have a Celebrity Bermuda cruise booked for June. We were thinking of Aruba for middle of August. Would we have to get up before dawn to reserve a spot on the beach, or are there enough cabanas on the beach until 8 am. That's the only thing we don't like. Reserving a spot at dawn. Also, how is breakfast and lunch there? We would probably walk along the beach to have dinner.

You don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a palapa at Manchebo. They have plenty. We usually just stop by on our way to breakfast and the guys on the beach set it up for us. They have a nice breakfast buffet, or you can order off of the menu. Sometimes we pick up Dunkin Donuts by the casino instead. Lunch is the usual burgers or sandwiches that most places have. They do have good fish tacos and chicken quesadillas. There are usually taxis waiting nearby around dinner time to take you wherever you want to go, if you are heading out. We never miss Barefoot, Chalet Suisse, and Azzurro. If you would prefer an all inclusive, you might want to check our Divi AI, which is also on Eagle Beach. I only mention this because you wrote that you've stayed at Occidental several times.

If you are flying in August, as long as your dates are flexible, I would hold off booking. Wait for fares to drop or an airfare sale. You still have time.

Will add to what Hatteras said, we considered the Divi for our upcoming trip. New poolview category rooms were already sold out and based upon numerous photos of the other room categories available on the internet, namely Cruise Critics sister website Oyster.com we decided against booking the Divi.
