how long to disembark a mega-ship?

I'll be aboard allure of the seas for the new years cruise, and wondering how long you think it'd take to disembark?

The ship is schedule to dock at 7am at FLL, and I'm trying to schedule a flight back home that same morning - but not sure how long to allow to get out of the ship and into a cab to the airport.

Noon or later is the typical recommended time for a flight at FLL when docked at Port Everglades. I would read the Oasis board and see what they typically say for debarkation, and be aware that things can happen to slow things down on any given week.

Your line probably suggests that you do not book a flight before noon. You might want to find out how many other ships will be disembarking the same day: FLL easily gets jammed, and while you might be off the shipby 8:00 or 8:30, and at the airport by 9:00 - the odds are that you wont.

Why not follow the recommendation of you line, and avoid possibly missing your flight --- and certain stress?

Just because the ship is scheduled to dock at 7 a.m. doesn't mean that it will. More importantly, passengers likely will not be allowed off at 7 a.m. The ship must be cleared by the authorities first. Even if you can get off at an early time, things can happen. There might be a long line for customs and immigration. You might have difficulty finding your luggage or a cab. There will be 5000 other people looking for a taxi and getting in line at the airport. That's assuming there's no other ships docking that day.

Some ships allow a walk-off disembarkation where you carry your own bags off. It can save some time but also requires some planning ahead since you have to carry everything you've brought with you and purchased. Usually these are the first people allowed off the ship.

You can easily run into delays if the ICE inspectors are slow. Your best bet is to allow plenty of time to catch a flight.

Just got off Oasis yesterday. The most efficient embarkation & disembark we have ever experienced. Plan on about 1/2 the time you are used to on smaller vessels.

Someone really did their homework on Oasis & Allure. These ships got everything right.
