All things "Victory"

This is not from personal experience, but just from what I have read on these boards.

The Victory docks at pier 4 (I think) right across from Old San Juan.

I am not sure about boarding time, but people have mentioned that that boarded,

then got off the ship and did some sightseeing,

then re-boarded later in the day.

We boarded sometime around 1 p.m. and never got back off! -not for PR that is.

Come evening time, this section of Old San Juan looked like this..

We had a view across San Juan harbour like so...

which changed at night to this...

hahahahahaha...I read somewhere that they hold it around 10:30 or so at sailaway.
Ours was just a few mins. before sailaway.

I think 'The Call' came at about 9:30 p.m. --it got started around 9:50

and by the time we returned to the cabin to store our Fashionable Orange Jackets

we were moving!

We were on the Victory in February and they postponed muster drill until the next day so as not to interrupt the game. They had the game on the big screen and in the bars. You will have a blast!

We'll be sailing here two weeks before the superbowl so for the conference finals playoffs. Wonder if they will post pone the drill during that time as well. I mean c'mon this is the game that detrmines who going to the playoffs (lol). However, safety first so I won't be too upset. Actually, I have no worries not like the Detriot Lions will be playing. (hahaha)

We were in Cabin 6207 which is riiight up forward(front)

so I couldn't help but investigate the small tiered bow-decks

accessible via the 'secret doors' at the extreme forward ends of corridors

on Decks 6 and 7, 9 and 10 (Bridge is on 8)

I love the fisheye lense.

I will have to get one before I cruise! ===> Wait til St.Maarten?

Bought mine Apr. 22nd. in St. Maarten at Boolchands on Front Street...cost me 599 !

Back home I checked the internet prices on the Nikkor 10.5 mm. fisheye for Nikon

and found anything like $900-700 --so I guess I didn't do too badly. ;)

105mmfisheye.jpg

It's a neat little thing compared with the other wide-angle lens I've been using...the Sigma 10-20 mm.

....................................

Bear in mind that Sigma also makes fisheye's...

The one I had in mind when I walked into Boolchand's was the 10 mm. like so..

but they make a 15 mm. model as well

Buy wisely -they're not cheap!

Research the whole range!

I will do my homework. My new camera is going to be a canon. I can not buy it it St. Marteen, the cruise that I am booking does not stop there. What about St. Thomas. Has anyone had any luck buying lenses there at a decent price?

Want to make it clear that my recent April 09 mini-cruise on Victory

was a special post-Summit-of-The-Americas three day wonder offered to Barbados-island-residents only

so we went to St.Maarten.. not(I think) part of Victory's usual PR-to-Barbados-and-back loop.

...........................................

Anyhoo...on the way up to SXM, we passed many islands during the night

and I woke early the next morning..

Sunrise-437.jpg

to find us off St.Kitts!

albeit quite a way from the island

StKitts-706.jpg

We were still heading North( a long run from Barbados, straight to SXM) so we got a good bit closer..

StKitts-743.jpg

Once St.Kitts was left behind by about an hour or more

up came SABA

SABA.jpg

which is nothing but a volcanic peak breaking the surface!

In my experience, this (above)

is about as clear as you'll get to see Saba

which is often covered in cloud.

Hope these aren't too off-topic for y'all...
