Halifax things to do??

Recommended Posts

Peggy's Cove is an hour away but well worth the visit. One word of advice: try to go using an independent tour operator to avoid the crowds. The village is SMALL (population is like 48!) with one small restaurant. When we went, several Carnival bus tours arrived all at once and completely overwhelmed the place. It was cold and when it started raining, everybody tried to cram into the little restaurant.

The place is beautiful though. We are very glad we went.

I took a city tour with a stop at the Cove just for the convenience. Nice ride, and a nice stop. We did walk to the museum another time, but there are guys with rickshaws if you get tired. Otherwise, it's a nice walk along the water.

We also walked up to the Citadel, which gave us a bit of history and some nice views of the harbor.

Nice port!

We did the bike tour first and then went to Peggy's Cove. The posts about buses taking over are accurate, but we did manage. The bike tour was a bit of a workout, but a blast.

We've been to Halifax a few times before and just walked around. On Glory Sept.2. Can we walk to Maritime museum? And how far to Peggy's cove? Are there places near pier to get Lobster etc..

Peggy's Cove is an hour away, but worth it. If you don't want to do that, walk up to Citadel Park and just walk the city, do some shopping, etc. Just came back and loved it.

Does the bag piper and town cryer still greet the ship when you get there?

Peggy's Cove is definitely worth it. There are a number of good lobster places nearby as well (Ryer Lobsters gets good reviews). It might be worth renting a car and doing both.

As far as the Maritime Museum it's a 15-20 min walk maximum from the ship. There is a nice boardwalk along the harbour that can get you most of the way there.

the boardwalk will take you all the way to the Maritime Museum and beyond.. it's a nice walk along the water (don't recall seeing any "rickshaws" when we were there in July).. at one point, we walked back along the main road, stopped in at Alexander Keiths brewery (didn't do that tour as it was 30.00ca per person) and they wouldn't let my husband and I have a beer on the roof top deck with our 3 children around, as we were also not ordering lunch..

we walked back to the pier and hired a van to take us on about an hours tour of the area.. went to the Titanic Graveyard site (pretty interesting) and drove up to the Citadel but didn't get out.

The driver gave us some interesting history as we went along..
